View Full Version : Another Antec blowed up real good.....wtf?
What the hell is with Antec power supplies?
I had my 2nd ps just blow up.
Sparks flying out the back....tripping breakers!!
Less than a year old Antec True Power 550W 2.0.
Rig is kept dust free for the most part.
I leave the rig on for most of day if I have to run out to meeting or whatever. This should not happen for phucks sake.
Now I have to RMA it.....then run to CompUSA to buy a temporary PS....hook it up and pray like hell it didn't fry my other components in my sig.
So what causes the things to become ol sparky?

Bad design or flaky 3rd party components ? Enermax had a bad run of PSU's that had a very low 5V line. Got a replacement later on and they apparently fixed the issue. Not sure what the deal with Antec is these days though.

most antecs now days do that because the fans can keep the internal compents cool

Usually on certain models built by CWT, the secondary caps are crappy Fujjhuyu which love to blow up/explode/leak when warm. In your case, it may be that or maybe a massive failure of the Input surge protection mechanism.

Wow, I sure hope this doesn't happen on my NEO HE 550.....
