Friend's looking for a set, but given how cramped his desk is, does not want subwoofers. Was thinking about this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836113003), but if anyone else has any experience with any good sets similar to this, shoot em my way. Thanks. :)

No sub? What's the point? ;)

You might look at the Dell badged Altec Lansings, they sound decent and don't cost much if you get the refurbs that are on ebay all the time.

I bought these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16836131025) for my sister back when she was in college. They worked surprisingly well and you can't beat the price! Just don't think you're getting good speakers at a low price, they're a good value but thats about it.

try looking for some flat panel speakers

i don't think you can save anymore room over those.. plus no massive power supply, usb powered

my friend has ones like them, and has no room what so ever on his desk, so he just uses the speaker as a coaster for his drinks and the other one is just taped to his monitor

Compgeeks (http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=SPK) has many el cheapo speaker sets, but I'll give you a tip,

If you see something you want at Compgeek (http://www.geeks.com/)s and I mean ANYTHING at Compgeeks. If the item is a Compgeek 'GEEK SPECIAL' and you CANNOT use the 10% off coupon MC Exclusive, here's what you do.

Go to http://www.evertek.com This is Compgeeks secret alias site and they have every item that Compgeeks has, and usually always it's CHEAPER

So don't say I never gave you anything, or I'll have to kill yah.

PS, I just went through this buying speakers for my sister thing, she didn't want to spend much money.

My advise to her was this, for her needs I suggested the wooden Klipsch 2.1 system

http://images.gfx.no/14/14801/76_medium_3.jpg

So I told her to check Klipsch's online open box/refurb direct sales and check Klipsch's Ebay sales.

Klipsch Ebay
http://stores.ebay.com/Klipsch-Audio-Technologies

Klipsch Online Refurb (New items appear daily) The 2.1 setup is normally $79

http://www.klipsch.com/shop/lists/clearance.aspx

For your friends $30 budget, some Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 Personal Audio System (http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/factory-refurbished-promedia-ultra-2-0.aspx) may be a good option since he does not want a subwoofer, they are normally $99, Klipsch sells them on both the Ebay sales and refurb section for a fixed buy it now of $50

If he looks on ebay, he may be able to get them below $30 if he's patient. Just buy from a reliable seller. ;)

Go check your Local Wal-mart..
I found some Creative SBS 340's 2.1 ;15 Watts

They have some Creative Labs 2.1 's
****SBS 340's**** I picked up for 19.99 for my wifes old DELL..
Heres a link too what they look like..http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=27&product=14092

EXCEPT these "linked" are 20 watts , whereas my wifes 340's are 15 watts..
They Sound great for the price....
