Ok I have a 6200TC, I didn't choose it, I was given tis comptuer for Christmas, and I'm very greatful (my first computer)

Sempron 64 3000+ 1.8ghz s754
MSI K8N Neo3
1gb Geil DDR400
6200TC 256mb 128bit

So my 6200TC is the 64mb 128bit memory type, but can go to 256mb using turbo cache. It has just a heatsink with no fan.

What are my overclock limits with just a heat sink? and what settings should I overclock? (the GPU is the bottleneck of my system)

hi, some of those 6200 cards could have pipelines unlocked to make it a 6600, but i'm not sure if it was with the 6200 (non TC ones only). Try downloading ForceWare Coolbits 2.0 (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=815). When you right click your desktop and go properties, settings, advanced - you should get more options for overclocking and temperature. It can automatically find the optimal GPU and Memory speeds for you. After a bit of tweaking my old 6600 could do 380 on the gpu, and 666 on the memory stable with load temp of 65c.

Thanks, got the programme going to start testing it tomorrow, thanks for the help :)

[EDIT]
I decided to have a look now and it'd added the option to my nVidia control panel...however the only options are "standard" and "Auto Overclock"

From the description auto overclock speeds up and slows down speeds like "Cool 'n' Quiet" but is there a way for me to manually set the settings?

You can also OC your CPU!:)

Ok well I've just opened it with RivaTuner and it says this...

The ram bus is infact 64bit
But it says this to:
Core Clock: 372.6mhz (supposed to be 350mhz)
Memory Clock: 213.75mhz - 427.5mhz effective (supposed to be 550mhz effective)

So does this mean that my Core is overclocked while my memory clock is underclocked? I haven't done any overclocking, those are jus the read outs I was given.

I did try forewarecoolbits as mentioned above, I tried the "Auto Overclock" option it gave and my computer rebooted when I did an "alt tab" to check temperatures (I was getting 8fps more in my game though, so it ran at 38-40fps)

[EDIT]
When I open the overclock options of RivaTuner it shows 374mhz core and 428mhz effective memory, and when I select "reset to defaults" these are the settings it sellects

[EDIT 2]
LOL I didn't have my display panel set to "advanced" that's why I only had auto settings in Coolbits...I didn't need to get RivaTuner after all. What can Riva do that coolbits can't?

RivaTuner can 'software unlock' extra pipes that have been disabled (at least attempt to, anyway), essentially changing a 6200 to a 6600, but as mentioned above, TC models have nothing to unlock :(.

So simply put, not a lot. I personally gave up Riva for coolbits sometime ago.

Yea I've found coolbits to do the job, Riva is useful for getting system information that you'd normally need to reboot to find, other than that I've noticed no real difference since using both.

On another note, I now have the card clocked at:
Core Clock: 411mhz
Memory Clock: 509mhz (DDR)

And it's given me another 8-10fps in EVE-online meaning I get 38-42fps average with 29fps being the lowest drop I've had so far during a big battle, which is good considering 29fps used to be my average after I optimised in game settings but before I OC'ed the 6200TC. (Haven't installed any of my other graphics intensive games on yet).

btw Careface, I'm up in the Bay of Plenty

Even though you could OC it, it is not worth the trouble considering that a 6200TC comes with only 16, 32 or 64mb of ram, witch is clearly unsufficient, and that the speed boost will be marginal if any.

I thought that was a considerable performance gain for what was 5-10 mins of my time? All you could have done in that time was make a coffee and get a snack. I considered it worth my time :)

You're right that the 6200TC only has 64mb of ram on it which is rather low by todays standards. It does perform better than the old 64mb cards though because it has a faster core and memory speed. And it also has acess to another 192mb of system memory when it's really being worked, which is like having your onboard memory plus a low-end graphcis card working.

The turbo-cache is really a marketing gimmik as every agp/pci express and even now some PCI cards get to use system memory. Advertising shared memory has long been something mentioned to help sell a cheaper card.

Alas, your quest for performance has already taken a hold of you. Now you have seen the benifit that you can get from overclocking, perhaps you are already addicted to it!
