very recently i installed xp and sp2 and installed ie7 at the same time (this was after ie7 was finalized). i was horrified to discover how much slower my pc was with xp but even more disgusted with how sluggish the new ie is, especially after reading its high recommendations circulating the web. apparently, ie7 uses less resources than firefox, yet for me it loads webpages slower than it would on a faulty 56k connection even though i am using a very fast and stable cable connection. it is just abominably slow and sometimes webpages don't even load; ie tells me to check my internet connection. it even takes 4 seconds on average to load an about:blank page. i would like to check my fist in whomever's face is responsible for this mess... unfortunately, that's me and i'd prefer to fix the problem rather than punch myself in the face. firefox is operating fast as ever but unfortunately, many of the sites i visit require that i use some variation of ie and will sniff out and deny access to those using any other browser. please help.

i am very close to uninstalling this program and reinstalling ie6 but unfortunately, it seems that ie7 is the future and in fact will install itself automatically when one updates xp. if any of you can help in providing a fruitful resolution, you will have my undying thanks.

my setup:
1 gig kingston value ram (passes prime95)
2500xpm @ default speed (no time to mess with this right now)
xp pro with sp2 with automatic updates on

It's hard to say why it runs slow on your particular system, as it runs fine on mine. Download Process Explorer...

Process Explorer for Windows v10.21
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

... and take a screenshot with it open (Alt+PrtScn), paste it into Paint and save it as a *.jpg. You can then upload the image to the forums here, and then post the pic. in this thread. Also download HijackThis...

HijackThis 1.99.1
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

... then do a system scan and save a log file, which you can then also post in this thread.

here is a logfile from hijackthis i created after running process explorer:
