I just done a fresh install of windows on this box for my dad, he says that the net is running realy slow, ive made sure all P2P progs are closed and that NIS is permitting programs im using. usualy we get very good speeds on this pc, instant loading webpages, but right now its at a crawl on IE and Firefox wont connect at all. I figured it may be something to do with NIS because when I first installed it it repeatedly detected someone trying to "attack the PC" it turned out the address reportedly attacking me was associated with my ISP, so I just set the security to low in NIS and it didnt report intrusions anymore.
Now when I disable NIS the net speeds up again?!
any help would be greatly appreciated

p.s. this may or may not be associated with this problem but when I open firefox it takes aaaages to load, like 1 minute +
