freezing media

i have a question, hopefully there is a solution!

sometimes when i watch movies an di move the
scroller to fast forward, the vidoe and sound just stops playing.
but the time keeps moving..

is there a reason for this?
1- bad video file?
2- bad codec?
3-recommended media players?
4- anything else?
