View Full Version : Why does the forum log me out randomly?
Sometimes when I click the submit button to post a reply I will get logged out and my reply wont post losing everything I typed. If I click the back button on my browser than refresh the page I'm still logged in. This doesn't happen every time, more often when I am typing a longer response.
I'm using Firefox 2.0 if thats relevant. Also would having multiple tabs open to ocforums be the cause? I never log out on one while replying in another but that might have something to do with it. Thanks for the help.
Edit: I'm also using the standard editor. Going to try and see if this happens when I used the advanced one as well.

No, this depends on the amount of time you spend without clicking (or reactivating your server stored cookie) and this depends completely on the cookie timeout time, that the administrators of this forum have set in Vbulletin options.
For example: If an admin set the cookie timeout on this forum for 10 minutes. That means after 10 minutes of not clicking outside of your current screen your cookie will be automatically logged out and dispersed locally on the server. Hence, logging you out.
So, in your case (and a lot of us) when we spend a massive amount of time typing a reply, or walking away from the screen to grab a bite to eat, or make a cup of coffee. It will automatically remove our cookie and you will be forced to login again to actually post your reply or thread.
*edit* This is also dependent on if you clicked on "Keep me logged in everytime I visit the site" This shouldnt ever log you out, so to prevent any further issues I would recommend selecting this check box before the next time you log in.

Ya know I've heard of other people saying this, but I've never experienced it. I stay logged in until I log myself out or I clear my cookies. This could be weeks at a time.

Thats only if you tell the server to keep you logged in all the time. There is an option. "Keep me logged in all the time" Checkbox
I was referring to people that choose to login manually every time, such as myself. A new cookie is issued every time.
BTW- How you been Jive? Just got back from vacation thats why I havent been on OCF that much.

Ahhhh ok, yeah I am a box checker.
@Dom: Eh, I've been ok. Could definitely handle a vacation though :)

I couldn't find this anywhere. Is it the same as the remember me check box next to the login in top right?

Yes. hehe That would be the check box. I was just quoting it off the top of my head. With the "Remember Me" checkbox clicked you shouldnt have any server cookie problems when walking away from your monitor, or typing long replies. It should always keep you locked and loaded.
Ok, thanks for the help. This is going to save me some stress!
