I was wondering if anyone has modded this Antec case (1040b) or another antec case. This case comes with 4 80x80x25 mm fans, two in and two out, with one in a hard drive bay to cool the dives.
you can see it here http://www.directron.com/1040b.html
well I wanted to put maybe a 120 mm fan in the front, maybe rear. I dunno much about blow holes or other ways to screw up the air flow in the case. Has anyone played with this case? Whats ur temps like? I would like to mod it out before I OC it. thanks:D
any suggestions wil help me out alot
MARK:rolleyes:

Hello and welcome to the forums....
I have the SX-1030 Antec case - same as yours ecept it isn't the cool black color and the PSU is smaller.
I too am in the process of adding a 120mm fan to it.
the only really good place to have on is on the top... so you don't lose a drive bay for your HDs, on the top right in front of the PSU - it will still clear an installed cd-romdrive with no problem.
Go to www.caseetc.com - go to the fan section and look at the 120mm fan kit - it includes the saw you need and everything. You might want to consider getting the rubber edging - to finish off your blowhole look and hide any burrs from sawing.
Hope this helps !

yes,
i have put a 120mm hole in the front - removing the lover set of hard disk bays, two 120mm hole in the top for my radiator and cleared up the rear 80mm holes. this case is thick steel and i burnt out a rotary tool made by prinz on it, so make sure you are using a good tool. unfortunatly i dont have any pics yet

What case do you have? Well your water-cooling so I am trying to get some air up in mine. How much would a water system cost in totals? Is it worth it?

Hey Joe, I have seen some articles on airl flow, saying that blow holes are not that good... What made you get yours? Did your temps drop alot? and is yours intake or exhaust? People use them for different things.

I haven't done it yet .... still trying to decide and figure out the mathmetics of it all..
I can't afford to lose my lower bay drive - I run two 40Gig'ers.... but would LOVE to have my 120mm up front - it is the Panaflo H1A 131 CFM !!!

the PSU is the only diff
1030 = 300 watt
1040 = 400 watt

i have the same case, the antec 1040b, but mine was sold in the uk under chantec and didn't come with a psu or fans - good for me
put the 120mm fan/fans on the top if you can. I was going to mod my 1240 but I decided not to. I think a 92mm would be fine in teh front under the 2 80mms. that way you can have another fresh air in 92mm on the side aiming at the cpu and all the other fans out. the hot air rises too.

So put a 92 in the front and a 120 on top? Well, wouldnt that create neg pressure in the case. What should the CFM be for intake and out? If I mod the side and the top what should the fans all do. I was told to keep it positive. Positive meaning to keep the same in as out. Does anyone have suggestions...:D
Hi Guys
I have the Antec 1030 but with a 350psu so I suppose you could call it a 1035???
However I have the 2 fans that came with the case extracting air out of the rear & 2 YS Tech fans pulling air in from the front ( fairly quiet ) An Alpa 8045?YS 80mm Tech Fan drawing air off the H/Sink
I have read a week or so ago that some one actually removed there psu cover & got better temps. I have been meaning to try this soon.
But a better plan might be to install a side fan blowing directly onto the cpu area & reverse my H/Sink fan to also blow in the same direction.
I will make up a panel & try this option as well.

LOLOL which way is the heat sink fan susposed to be blowing..Wow when I made my CAK38 I could have done it wrong...:eek: :eek:
Skynet Op, heatsinks are designed both ways. The Alphas seem to work better with the fans sucking the air OFF of the heatsink. This works because of the way the shroud is designed. Some get better performance blowing onto the heatsink, so I guess it just depends on the application. You can try it both ways. My 8045 works better sucking, my old PEP66 worked better blowing.
