If i even overclock my video card a little when i click on the Seti icon to start it up my screen turns white and everything is frozen or the picture will be so scrambled you cant see anything, unclock the gf3 and everything is fine. I'm running a leadtech and the PC in the sig below just wondering if anyone else is having or had a problem like this. One note everything else works fine i can run 2001 all day without a hiccup other then Seti everything else is 100%stable. I also did a complete fresh format\install of WinMe and the new versions of SetiSpy and driver but changed nothing.

Well some people have noticed that Seti causes weird noises to come from their sound card. I had a video card that was going bad, and Seti seemed to aggravate it. The screen wouldn't turn white, but it would cause a lot of flickering horizontal lines. I changed the card out and it was back to normal.

Are you running the screen saver or the command line? If it's the gui I could see how it might be sensitive to overclocking, but if it's the clc then it get's a bit more complicated.

Its the command line version, my GF2 32mx never had a problem even at 172fsb but this new GF3 seems to be a little more sensitive, i'll try posting in the videocard section thought i'd check it out here first though to see if anybody else has the same thing happening.

Well, I have the soundcard problem.... I'm a rarity in that instead of hearing weird sounds, whenever I play a MIDI, SETI gets massive ammounts of floating-point errors. I've learned to never listen to a MIDI with SETI open :) .

Windows isn't saying any conflicts exist with my FPU, so any other ideas why SETI would screw with another device like this??

Hey outhouse, glad to hear from you!!!!!

As for the GF3, might it be that your AGP bus is to high oced?????

Have you tried to overclock your GF3 at a lower FSB?

nope but it runs everything fine and at 4x so as long as i dont overclock it i'll be fine i'd hate to give up any MHZ :) maybe another brand of VC would do me better but for know i think i'll stick where i'm at.

take care buddy :)

Have you tried the AGP at 2x? 4x can cause a lot of problems when OC'ed:(

I'm using a Visiontek GF3, and another Visiontek Ti500 in my main rig, and haven't had any troubles at 4x, but I make sure that I'm well below the "Threshold of pain" in the FSB side of things. I could run a few mhz faster, but I don't like to stretch it that far when running Seti. I want to ensure I'm sending in decent results;). I know you don't want to lose any mhz, but try dropping a few for a day or so, and see if that makes a difference, maybe?

GeForce chips are sometimes a little hard to tweak.....Are you oc first the memory and then the core? That way you can ensure the maximum oc in your vid card.

Also, check if you are not draining your AGP header. Those new vid card suck a lot of juice. Might be that when you oc your card and began to stress your CPU, the latter needs more energy, the CPU crashes or it might began a tug-o-war with the GPU to see who can suck more energy from the PSU.

Thanks guys all good points, i never knew to try to clock memory before core but as it is the games i play will never touch how fast this card is the way it is. The last time it did this before the reformat\install i did try to clock way down and i was running at 2x and i think 160FSB and it still caused the same problem. How can i check if i'm draining the AGP header? Oh and as far as streesing things i'm at 172FSB but it will run no problem at 172 and it will run a while at 173

Outhouse, way off subject here and probably kinda dumb, but I wanted to ask anyway. Would you mind hyperlinking the seti home page to the seti info in your sig? It's alot easier for newb's to get to it that way.
Sorry if this sounds pushy, I'm just trying anything to get new members.=)
