I have a PC dedicated to video editing. It is very slow when encoding mpeg (2.4Ghz p4). I'd like to replace the mobo but keep the 4 IDE hard drives.

I'm looking for mobo for core2 duo E6400 with 2 or more built-in IDE controllers and one AGP slot (speed non critical) or built-in video (64MB video ram is more than enough).

And of course I would like to be able to overclock it a little.

Any suggestions?

Many Core 2 Duo boards have only one IDE port (2 drives) which means one HDD and one optical or two opticals. Not a good situation for legacy hard drives like yours.

There are budget boards that have on-board video, and AGP, 2 IDE ports and support Core 2 Duo.

These boards use older chipsets and I do not think they represent the best overclockers.

For your case, I would be inclined to suggest a PCI card with IDE ports like this:

and then get a better motherboard.

I'm willing to get separate IDE controller and get a better board.
Is there some board that's easier to overclock than average? I don't need extreme overclocking.

Asus boards have a quick auto overclocking feature. If you are trying to keep your current memory and video card, maybe the third link I posted above will be your best bet.

It is a micro form factor and has AGP as well as onboard audio, video and lan, 2x184 pin RAM slots, 2 IDE controllers for 4 devices, and is easy to overclock. There are two SATA ports if you want to add drives, and 3 PCI sots for your IDE or RAID controller.
Downside is that you will not be able to upgrade to DDR2 memory or PCI-e video in the future without getting a new motherboard, but the price is low enough for this one that that should not be a concern.

my board, asus P5N-E SLI has 2 IDE connectors, SATA, and overclocks an E6300 to 3.41ghz well and is like 140$ Based on what your saying its probably a little more than what your looking for. It takes DDR2 but it appears like you are buying ram anyways, you might as well get DDR2 board and ram if you can because you get more value out of DDR2.

I see you want onboard video or AGP slot so maybe thats not such a good suggestion, but depending upon your budget you can get PCI express video cards like the 7300LE are very inexpensive, they can be even less expensive and you can still use PCI cards for cheaper.
