TIA trapper
yes it is doable just edit 98 out of your boot.ini, dirx8 should go on 2k without a hitch, Norton or not , i use norton 2001 never a problem, your best bet would be to fix your boot, putin sp2, putin your dirx
best overall would be to put 2k in from fresh install, cause sounds like u have other problems going on

dxdiag.exe -entry point not found
the procedure entry point SMapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.
that is the error im getting when trying to initiate dx-diag
also it was a clean install i formatted installed win98and put this on as a 'clean install' thanx
didint u want to get rid of 98? cause if u do just, boot into your 2k cd, go for setup, delete all existing partions, format one, and install
maybe i don t understand what u want

when i went to install 2000pro after i formatted it said it couldnt run setup from dos?so i installed 98se and chose the full not upgrade option,i have been up since last post formatting n re-installing win98 and all my software, as when i went to install dx8 and i got some error then went to instal norton av 2001 and @this version for w95/98 only,
so it was more trouble than its worth maybe if id have thought about choosing the partition and puttin it over the 98se partition but i never and to be 100% i cannae see the difference apart from its harder to get good software for, existing expensive s/ware not compatable in a word s***e!!!!:o
OK First of all your Windows 2K cannot run from dos it needs the 4 bootdisks for Windows 2K which can be found at http://www.bootdisk.com/
I'm guesing the upgrade of Windows 2K didn't work out too well and juss failed..
SO I suggest if you have some patience left for this formatting..
Backup everything and I mean EVERYTHING.
Boot with the 4 disks and then delete every partition pick the main one to be C which Win2K will be installed on then u can format your other drives with NTFS partition...
