i cant help it my cpu is getting really hot and i dont kno why the fan doesnt help i have a p4 1.5ghz with 384 ram and a original heatsink/fan and it is still at 88c temps!! which is crazy can some1 help me birng down these temps without buying a new heat sink fan becuz these temps are like imposibe to get
first welcome to the forum....
What are you using to monitor temps?
Are you using thermal grease between CPU and HS?
Is your heatsink applied properly?

im using hardware sensor monitor and the heatsink fan should be in place cuz its original and thats how it came and i dont have thermal grease and dont know what it helps

Dude, i would call the place you got it from..
88C?
Dude, that's ****ing crazy.
That'd ****in burn the **** outta your processor
That could melt.
Rhymes let's keep the profanity a little low :)
Anyways to the point, what motherboard do you have?
Those temperatures aren't correct or else the chip would have fried long ago.
You sure your not looking at C but at F-H temperatures?
Those temperatures would make more sense if it was F-h..

Thermal grease improves contact between the heatsink and CPU and fills the microscopic gaps that exist on both surfaces which lowers temps. It is extremely important. Retail CPU's sometimes come with a thermal pad which generally works OK on non-overclocked CPU's.
The thermal probe must be wrong on your board b/c I dont believe an Intel CPU would run at temps that high. I did have an AMD Duron 900 at work that was running at 99C at stock speed b/c the fan was not spinning. After it still ran that hot I got it running at 1200 with retail cooling.
Is your fan still spinning? Do you know what kind of heatsink you have? Does the heatsink appear to be seated properly on the CPU?
could you take a screenshot for us from MBM? or sandra? www.sisoftware.co.uk

Dude you have three threads in here all asking the same thing. Is the HSF working? Have you tried any of the cooling tricks, extra fans are cheap, run it with the case off. Does this change the temps at all or do they stay the same?

everything is working fine but odnt see no results i even bought a new case and rebuild the pc and run it with the case open not one thing changed

Wow that really sucks, are you running default settings or have you changed something? If so switch back to defaults. Try to determine if its really that temp or an error, I have that problem with the cpu fan speed, had to click ignore to even boot. What are your 3Dmark 2001 scores? Have you downloaded Sandra to take a closer look at your system? Sorry I would have gave you a link but I don't know how to do that yet. But its easy to find maybe someone else knows and will be kind enough to help out.

Opps sorry I see deez already gave you that link. Check it out!
OK, just for your piece of mind, since we all know your CPU isn't running 88C. It's probably a deficit in the monitor chip. I have a Soyo board that reports the CPU temp at 78C. It ain't that hot, either.
Since you aren't afraid to go into the case, while your system is running, place your hand on the side of the heatsink. Be careful not to stick your fingers in the fan, but sort of palm the heatsink. Your body temp is 98.6F and the heatsink should feel slightly warm to you. If it was indeed 88C, it would blister your fingers before you could pull them back.
As everyone has said, your CPU isn't that hot. If you aren't having any crashes, my advice would be not to worry about it.
If the heatsink is really hot, then you need to take it back and have it repaired. Hope this helps.

Geez
Dude, you need to put a Dragonorb 3 7K RPM ON that beast.
Yes, very.
Or you could get a Coolmaster 5k RPM For 8 dollars. About 4 Dollar's for shipping..
Isnt that great?

i dont kno why but in sisoft snadra i get that in hardware sensor monitor in mbm5 i get all the same i dont kno why and my pc is running really slow like really and when i go to cpu bench mark it goes like the lowest possible even those p3 600 go faster then mine i have a p4 1.5ghz 384 ram tha should be fast

according to my calculations that's 190° farenheit. that would put an athlon to shame!
jeff
pacboy...touch the base of your heatsink if its too hot to touch then you have a problem with your chip
if not then its your board sensor

so you say your pc is running slow, and your cpu is 88°
that makes sense because when the cpu gets too hot it lowers the fsb until the temp is low enough
is your cooling , heatsensor ok?
