Thanks for reading my little post:

I have lurked for a while and I have yet to see a DDR2/AGP Conroe motherboard.

I know that these are listed as DDR2/AGP - I can't find anyone using them:

PC CHIPS P23G (V3.0)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813185086

ECS P4M800PRO-M (V2.0)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135027

They are both micro ATX boards (nothing wrong with that[?])

And of course the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157092

I was thinking of using this RAM:
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820231065
(I know that's overkill but I'd rather over spend then underspend. I will use this in a new/second phase computer later this year.

For the cpu it's"
E4300
E6600
Xeon 3060
My first choice would be the Xeon just to see if it really is better than the E6600 - If the E4300 becomes less expensive (~$150) I'd might consider that.

Maybe a hard drive and an aftermarket heatsink too.

If I have read enough here on the forums members like Greenmaji would say that it might not work at all (I won't mind one RMA). As long as it worked it would have to be faster than a P4 2.66 @ 3.1gigs, 512 Rambus, and a X800 All in Wonder (probably the best piece of hardware I have).

If the ATI DX10 cards where out I might go that route or the 8800. It's all Nvidia for now and I would rather have some choices than only one.

I'm not in a big hurry (I might just buy the 24" Dell LCD and wait some more).

Am I nuts or what??? TIA

Wait for the mainstream DX10 cards around ~April: even the entry cards should be at least as good as the best AGP card you currently have.
The boards you listed are all what I call "bottom of the barrel" ones. The RAM is way too nice to waste on them. They have a place to buy sometimes, when you're very cash strapped over all, but not otherwise.

Thanks for the reply. If I understand you it's not even close worth considering.

Not even as a bridge for "a month or two"? I would just ditch the board. ~$60 is all it would cost financially. Emotionally it might be more trouble than it's worth (just getting it to work[?]).

I just recieved this board and an E6600 from FedEx Wednesday. I'll let you know how it all works out once I get it hooked up this weekend.

I'm going to use my 2gig DDR kit and AGP 6600GT MMX440  for now but eventually I'll switch to DDR2 and PCIe while I still have this board. I'm just using this board as a cheap bridge to the newer platform without breaking my piggy bank trying to do it all in one step.

This board lets you straddle both side of the AGP/DDR-PCIe/DDR2 stream for as long as you need to for less than $60.

Thanks Audioaficionado

You and I are thinking the same thing. It seems that with DDR it works "OK".

I believe that it doesn't work (or work very well) with DDR2.
