i am buying an athlon 1133 from ebuyer, and the most expensive cooler they have is a Jet Cool Premium CPU Cooler(£22)

"Aluminum radial folded fins for maximum heat dispersion area
Copper core for great heat conductivity from processor to fan
Weighs only 200g to minimize mechanical shock and vibration
Special Thumb latch design for easy clip on installation"on installation"

i am hoping to run the cpu at 1333. does this fan sound ok? also, should i expect this to be loud or not?

forgot to mention, the manufacturer is antec, who have rebranded a molex heatsink. i have been reading a few reviews, and they seem to say it is very quiet (35 db).

however, some people say it is easy to install while others disagree. is this cooler likely to damage my core? it is also mentioned that the cooler comes with a different thermal paste which is very sticky. could this get in the way of me connecting my bridges to overclock after trying at the stock speed?

No matter what thermal paste you use, it should not get in the way of you overclocking.

Thermal paste goes on the CORE, not the entire CPU.

The core is the thing in the center ;)

As for damaging your core installing it, as long as the hs/f is designed for SOCKET A CPU'S, and you install it carefuly, you shouldn't have any problems.

A thin layer of thermal goop, gunk, stuff, or whatever, on the core should be sufficient to cool your CPU, just make sure the fan you are getting is rated for your clock speed or greater, or you might end up with a meltdown.

Also I was just thinking...

when you said stick ymaybe you meant would the HS/F come off ?

so if Iw as a total dumbass, then you shouldn't have problems yanking off a heatsink and fan to connect your bridges, unless you are using Epoxy.

that's the only thing I know of that is permanent.
