Hey guys I need a good MB for a Socket 478 Pentium 4 2.66ghz. Someone gave me a nice Dell machine but the mother is screwed. Everything else is ok. I need a cheap MB for it. Any suggestions? Also will I need a new power supply or do you think the stock one will work? I know I have read that some of them use different wiring. I do not want to burn anything up.

Sorry for the typo. It is a socket 478

hehe... Socket 474 doesn't exist. :sn:

Seriously: If you're going to be using a new socket 478 board you'll probably need to replace the power supply as Dell was known to use proprietary pin configurations for awhile. You might be able to re-use the power supply though, so it's worth testing it out first. Make sure the memory isn't RDRAM for that matter since it's a Dell machine (you'd need to buy new RAM if that's the case). If it's plain DDR you should be able to grab any random socket 478 board for it. Unfortunately you're kinda limited in choices now though unless you buy a used board because of the socket..

Anyhow, here's a $50 matx board with SATA I, onboard lan, video and audio: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138262

If you want a solid overclocker, I would look for something used like discussed in this recent thread.

ebay has some of these usually.

And we have good old stickies to get the low down on overclocking, voltmoding, tweaking or otherwise pushing these to there limits :sn:
