hi im currently thinking about overclocking a e6400 but before i take the plunge imcurious about what the best ram 2X1gb moduels
are the xms dominator 2 by corsair good for overclocking cpu
thanks
Since you have an E6400 you are going to want some memory with the D9 ICs. The Dominators used to be D9 but have switched over to Promos chips. The cheapest set I've seen is the Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 for around $280. There was a deal over at zipzoomfly.com but I don't know if it's still active or not.

ocz platinum xtc ram overclocks well. i'm not sure how it compares to the ram with d9 chips tho.
I had a set of OCZ Gold XTC DDR2-800 that were good up to about 450mhz 5-5-5-12. The beauty of the D9 is 500mhz+ with CAS4 timings.

my ocz platium is running at about 440 right now at 4-5-4-15 timings. i just got it, so i haven't found what the max oc is for it yet. those d9's sound remarkable though.

i was doing some superpi benching last night with my d9's at 520mhz, 4-4-3-4-8. they are the way to go if you want tight timings at high mhz.

mm lots of options lets say money is no option since its crucial to have good memory to overclock (this is true im reading guides and such to gain knowladge) soo the xms dominator 2 are not that great since they switched to promos chips so avoid those is what i should do first of all ?
If money is not a problem check out the TeamXtreams. http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-44410-800mhz-p-1645.html

those, or these: http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-3338-p-1676.html
they are pretty much the same thing. i've got the ddr2-667 set, and so far they are putting the G.Skill HZ's i had before to shame.

HBB, what volts were you using to get those D9's that high with those timings? I have my crucial 667 D9's at 430 right now 4-4-4 with 2.25v and plan on pushing them some more so I was curious about the voltage you used.
To the OP, I'd go with what everyone else has suggested and get some D9 goodness from Crucial or TeamXteem!

at those speeds i was using my boards max, 2.45v, with -15c air blowing over the ram/cpu. i think my new 24/7 settings will be 500mhz, 4-4-3-4-8 with 2.25v, that's what i'm running now.
honestly, i think you could run the speeds you are now with less than 2v. the settings you see in my sig are done with 2.1v.
today, i ran some 3DMark01 at 520fsb, 4-4-3-4-6 timings. :D a first for me
