*Sighs*

this is what i got

1.2 AMD w/ 200 fsb 12x100 (for now)
MSI K7T Turbo-r
512 MB's PC-100/133
Antec 300 watt case
CPU fan: "Speeze 5E30B3"

my temps from Bios are....

CPU temp = 52c
System temp = 31c
CPU fan speed = 4582-4687 rpms
V-core = 1.76
3.3v = 3.31
5v = 4.90
12v = 12.12
I took the pink stuff off the fan and im usin the radio shack "heatsink compound" it decreased my temp from 57c to 52c now but i my PC freezes when i try to play games still...

What's wrong? do i need a new fan/heatsink ? If so which one will cool me off the best ? I wanna overclock this PC so please point me in the right direction for the best "AIR" cooling available.

THX

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!
.....and to the addiction:eek:

Maybe you need better cooling;) Take a look here (http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/) for some tips. If you want the best then the MCX462 with a 80mm DELTA 80CFM FFB0812EHE.

Now now, the "best" is a LN2 setup :)

Nah, Liquid Helium'd get you way cooler... Doesn't it sit somewhere in the 4-7 Kelvin range??? Pulling from memory of HighSchool Chemistry, so bear with me.. :D

While that MCX-462 w/ Delta Extreme 80CFM will cool you down pretty well, it'll also set ya back around $85US... possibly more, and will be about as loud as a hair dryer. I'd say a good solution that doesn't cost a fortune is the Millennium Glaciator II (http://www.millennium-thermal.com/start.htm) or the
Thermalright SK-6 (http://www.thermalright.com/sk6.htm).
Hope this helps... :D
Peace

Boils at 4.22K. This would probably be too cold - you tear the chip apart from the different thermal contraction rates of silicon and Al/Cu.

The BEST as someone said, is the swifttech. However a very good heatsink that also is reasonably quite is the glaciator II. Its also cheaper than the swifty.

The Glaciator II performs very well for there price from refiew I"ve seen but the mere weight of the hs keeps me from wanting to use one , when my hsf starts approuching a pound and a half I start to worry ;) expecially when it uses the clip to hold the hsf in place. If your mobo will support it I think you should buy the Alpha PAL 8084 or the Swiftec one they are both expensive but I think they are both top performers.

If you can spend $55-60, then get the Alpha 8045 with a 68 cfm fan. If you have $80-85 to spend, then get the Swiftech MCX462 with the 68 cfm Delta fan. Unless you are already deaf, stay away from the 80 cfm Delta fan as it is obnoxiously loud. Both of those coolers are about the top of the class with air cooling and use the 4 holes around the socket to mount with so you don't have to worry about breaking a lug off of your socket. They also work well in preventing you from chipping your core. I have the earlier version of the Swiftech, the MC462 and also the Alpha and they both run real close as far as temp wise. Hope this helps you out.
