View Full Version : Voltage Problems

In my secondary system I got running a Celeron 800 stabil @1066 / 1,95V. Last week I added a new IBM Harddrive 40GB and a GeForce 3 to the system. Until then, the voltage lines are not more stabil, so +5 V line sometimes drops to 4,97 V. Also sometimes the monitor goes out and thereafter shows a "no signal" report. In addition the CPU doesn't run stabil any more, because sometimes its running at only ~1,85 V, although I hadn't changed the BIOS settings which is 1,95 V. I guess the cause for the problem is the poor 235W power-supply my system has...
Is that right ? Or could there be any other solutions ?

I'm not very big on the information part of what your asking. But I do know that as far as the power source goes, if you can aford the upgrade, you should try to get a 300W or maybe even a 350-400W especially for the P4, which in my opinion should all be setup with at least a 300W supply. Good luck:p
my guess is that you are running 2 hd, a cdrw, and maybe a cd/dvdrom drive, along with the other hardware; videocard (which i saw may take up to 45-50watts), cpu, mb.
you should really look into getting a 300w or bigger powersupply

Personaly I think the power sup should be the first upgrade to any system being overclocked....in my case I just figured I could get a little more speed with a bigger supply, and when I went to a 450watt'er my Alpha fans jumped up 100rpm's, and they no longer vary much in speed. Before, they would bounce up & down in speed, now they are rock steady.
250w is marginal for a stock system these days, let alone one with a good vid card, extra hdd's and all the other candy. If you can't afford a new supply, you can use 2 250's or 300's by jumpering the "power good" signal wires...use one supply to power the hdd's & cd's and use the other to power the rest. I have never tried to do the power good trick but others here have, and can explain how it's done, or point you to a web page that will show how to do it.
Good luck
