View Full Version : Geforce 2 cooling advice needed

I have a geforce2 pro made by leadtec, and the h.s./fan covers a couple of the ram chips and want a better solution.
I have the 64mb ddr version.
I want to replace the original h.s. with an aftermarket one.
Any suggestions?
My card is running fine, but I figure it will last longer if it has good quality cooling...and maybe I can clock it a little higher than I have it at now.
Any thoughts will be most apreciated, and thanks in advance.

You can use a Alpha IU cooler & a 60mm fan, not the one it comes with, if it fits. Take a look on their site for a distributor near you.

BLORB (Blue Orb) or similar, I have a BLORB, you should lap it first, and use arctic silver adhesive, you can also cool the ram chips too, look for RAMSINKS
Be VERY careful when removing the stock HS
good luck

I have a leadtek gf2 and unless they changed the design the hsf is held on with clips - makes removal pretty safe :)

i have an inno3d and it doesn't have the 2 push-pins on it, it was held on by some VERY strong white adhesive

the copper dynatron 1u cooler looks good too.

I put a OCZ Dominator 2 on my leadtek gf2 w/32 meg. Lapped heat sink and GPU.

A lapped orb will be damn good and some ramsinks not thermaltake ramsinks because I've read bad reviews about them.

LOL, I'll have to borrow the old digicam from a friend, but you should see what I did... Had an old crappy Coolermaster or similar Socket A heatsink... cut some of the end off of it so it was the right width, left it long on either side of the chip, epoxied it down... Steals 3 PCI slots, but my GF2 has no complaints... :D
It's really not practical, I know, but it gets the job done for now, and it should be removable if I need to.
Peace
John

i have one of those crappy coolermaster things, get the copper dynatron 1u cooler if you can, it will only take up 1 pci slot, 2 at best. much smaller and better performance:D

Doc,

Check out this thread(but use Arctic Alumina Adhesive in Lieu of Arctic Silver Adhesive)

Thanks for the replies...the copper 1u cooler looks good, maybe I should'a been more specific...I'm more concerned with cooling the ddr...but I want to scrap the stock gpu cooler anyways...it covers a couple of the ram chips.
Thanks again, I think I'll go fer the copper thingy:)

Ermmm I have one of these and I was'nt impressed when I had it on my GF3. The why the fins are arranged gives a *very* limited airflow through the sink. I was using a 50mm 16cfm fan and was getting barely any temp improvment over the stock HSF. Sorry it looks good but I think is a donkey.

Here is what I did to my geforce 2. It is just a cheap coolermaster cpu sink that I lapped and some ramsinks I made from an old passive cpu cooler. The fan just will attach with some original screws to the sink. I put a bigger fan on it though than what came with it. The temp so far has not been over 35c on the chip (according to the compunurse).
