Still no takers for my European Wii, but I made the following discoveries.

1. The Biggest one: Most of the Major Wii Releases here in france are, just like their DS counterparts, in multiple languages. Zelda and Wario Ware are each in 5 languages and Rayman is actually in SIX languages. Madden 07 is in English and NFS Carbon is in French. This would save me from having to order games from Britain.

2. Well maybe THIS is the biggest one. (And a brilliant retort to Fudge's well-written piece about Sony and their warranties) Apparently taking a Wii with you from one country to another VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY.

From http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=148658 and I quote:

We are already aware that you won't be able to gain access to the Japanese or American VC in UK with a UK console. But if you import a US or Japanese Wii into UK, will that machine be capable of accessing the UK VC servers to download and play games made available to us Brits?

Nintendo: No. The European Virtual Console will be available only to European machines. If you import an American machine they would have to connect to the American service and use American Wii Points cards to buy content. Their warranty would also be void so this is not recommended.

There's Nintendo "standing behind their product."

3. Component capables are both Pal and NTSC compliant.

If you switch from RGB to YUV... then the screen will just pop up normal. There is a difference in framerate however, though I'm not sure how this would factor in to video games. I know some games are switchable between 50/60mhz but I have no idea what that actually means. My HDTV only supports NTSC and while I've been able to (more or less) correctly display pal movies on my NTSC HDTV (there is some difference in pixelation) the words don't match up to the words. So I'm unsure how this would play out with the Wii. (Although, if worse came to worse, I could use my pal TV card and play through my computer, which is connected to the same HDTV anyway...

4. It's possible to play import Gamecube games using Freeloader on a Wii.

So at least if I got this thing I could play unlimited American gamecube games (wuuu...hu).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's that. With any luck I'll sell this thing by tomorrow and won't even have to worry about all the problems inherent in having a European game system. The only thing European you EVER really want (besides women) are Televisions and Videocameras because all modern european televisions (and most DVD players) support both pal AND ntsc. Most hi-end video cameras do as well. So if you're a world wanderer it's advantages to go that route (plus PAL is superior, as is the newer ntsc-j, in terms of contrast, and pal in terms of 25fps vs. 29.97 fps. But please don't engage me in any videophile debates...)

dont worry bout it too much, if there is half the demand for wiis in france as there are in the states, then you should be able to sell it no problem. heck, even if you made little or no money on it, itd still be worth it to get out from under all those issues.
