i played the beta a little bit...
i hated it. however, i am huge HARDCORE Tolkien nut, so the idea of even the smallest change that is out of character makes me want to kill, so seeing a bunch of l337 gamerZ running around Middle-earth is enough to give me some sort of mental breakdown

I played that Beta for a month and kept hoping to find some reason to keep playing it but could not. Sad as I've been a huge Tolkien fan since the 70s and have always wanted a game like LotR Online.

I'm also in the beta this weekend. If you play 2 hours on Friday, 2 on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday they'll re-invite you to the beta from what I hear.

Why would anyone pay $200 upfront for a lifetime account on ANY MMO?

There are just too many reasons not to.

I agree, it's a bad idea. Most people will get bored with a game well before a year is up.

Then again, I played Ultima Online for a good 3 years.

i think the only reason they would offer the 199 for life deal is because they know that in the end no one will actually play for the whole 20 months that it will take to make it worth it.

I submitted my beta application as soon as I read this.
My friend has been raving about this game for the past few months. I'm eager to try it and see if it lives up to the hype. I'm also pretty critical of who-does-what to Tolkien's work, let's hope that Turbine doesn't fark it up :P

I could see many reasons too.

1) If you really like it and plan on playing a long time (if there was this option in EVE-Online I'd pay for it)
2) If you decide to quit that account will be worth a good value on ebay or what not
3) No monthly payments to worry about, so you could be broke and still beable to play it

But 9.99 a month, thats one of the cheapest out there expecially new ones thats very nice.

That is cheap but I would expect it to rise shortly after release. If UO can charge $15.00US monthly than any game can.
