I have an PIII-750 which was given to me by one of my relative. But he did not know whether its an retail boxed version or OEM as he had bought this with the full system. After a check on Intel S-Code Content Table, it shows that this s-code SL4CF is also available in both types of version, retail and OEM. That's is now the reasons I wish to confirm & verify against anybody who also does owned this similar s-code chip using SL4CF. Pls can countercheck the green PCB imprints on the processor iteself & relates what is the exact full imprints on the whole green PCB. I hope also if you can provide whether yours is an retail or OEM version. Thanks in advance.
if it was purchased inside of an OEM system, then it is an OEM chip. That's what OEM means- doubtful a system manufacturer would shell out the extra $$$ for retail boxed CPUS in all it's systems.
Conversely, since you need a receipt in order to get warranty service on a retail CPU, if you don't have the receipt it might as well be an OEM type.
why does this matter to you? OEM, retail, it's the same CPU in different boxes, is all.
did he give you a HS too...if it had a funky clip then it probly came from an Intel retail chip

You don't need a reciept if its a retail CPU, if you called Intel they can tell if its an OEM or retail

is what you said true? MAN O MAN O MAN!! yes!! recently, i accidentally fried my friends p800eb, and since he lost the document and everything...so it ended up i had to pay for the chip. Nevertheless, if you don't have any document to prove, how can Intel replace one for u?

have you actually done this? Sure Intel will know if it should have the retail warranty on it, but how will they know if it's your warranty? The warranty is non-transferable, so if you bought it used it's no good. Also, if you bought it from an unlicensed dealer it's void. I believe it has to be installed by an Intel-approved human too.
Being a former retail troll, I know tons of reasons that Intel would require a receipt or proof-of-purchase of some type. Can't think of any reasons to the contrary tho.
well, if you are right, I got a stack of old dead chips to send in. :)

Yes, I had a PIII 800e that just went dead and I called Intel and they asked me a bunch of questions like the Numbers on the casing and asked me what model mobo etc etc to see if I used the CPU in a non compatible mobo/setup......I guess to see if I was at fault. The CPU was retail and I didnt have the box or the reciept.... But from the numbers I gave them they knew right away ot was a retail warrantied CPU.
I told them it was for my business and they took my credit card number and FedXed me a new one overnight, once they recieved my damaged CPU they credited my credit card..
They also said if I wanted to send mine back to them I wouldnt have to give them my credit card and when they got the Damaged CPU they would send me a replacement

I need to clarify that I was able to return the CPU with no reciept and no box last year and Its possible Intel has changed thie liberal RMA process from a few PM's I have recieved.
Anyway I could be wrong and I hope I didnt put a false sense of hope....Best bet is to call Intel and ask
well, ok, I called the number on the Intel support web site and asked thru there what the warranty procedure is. The nice lady I spoke to layed it all out, basically- if u buy it retail and have a receipt, you get a new one if you want it, sometimes even if it still works- such as when you need matched steppings for a dual rig, and you have a receipt for two CPUs, somtimes they can help. If you have no receipt, you still will probably get a new one if the chip is genuinely dead, as not very many folks use this service and they like to keep customers happy- particularly business customers. Woo Intel!:)
OEM chips are pretty much out of luck in all cases. Try the place you bought it from, she said.
She also hinted that they had a way to detect if a chip was killed by overvolting or OCing. I think this is probably untrue, but I would say the same thing in her position!:D:D
Also- every one of my dead chips is both OEM and out of warranty even if it was retail. Oh well!:)
I get the distinct feeling that the your results will strongly depend on who you talk to and your attitude- the lady I spoke with was very nice and I tried to be very couteous as well, so she helped a lot.
So- YMMV! ( your mileage may vary)

i called intel today, and since my chip is a geniuen piii 800eb, i got no problem. but the guy asked me to give him the brand of the mobo, model number and bios version in order to get the replacement. sad, i don't have it, for my board was given to me by my aunt, and i know nothing about it. so could any of you give me a WORKING mobo with above list? thanks:D
You could always download Sisoft Sandra, run that and it can tell you all about your motherboard. Could be hard to do if the CPU is dead and u have no replacement tho:)
Since you've got a valid complaint, I would just look at Intel's list of approved 800EB boards, and pick one of those to tell them you had. A bit dishonest I suppose but since you aren't trying to cheat them or anything I would say it's OK:D
