View Full Version : E4300 and ECS Mobo Deal @ Fry's (only confirmed in SoCal currently)

I was on the AT forum and saw that Fry's has a bundle for an E4300 and an ECS P4M800Pro-M V2 for $149.99. The mobo is not all that hot but the total is less than the cost of the chip on most e-tail sites. Off to go get one and I will confirm if the chip is retail or OEM.
- J
Edit: just got back from Frys and the chip is an OEM and out the door (I went to the store in Burbank, CA) for $163 and some changes. Here is the link to the add in the LA Times
http://latimes.p2ionline.com/shoppingchannel/data/images/1620037_4269239.jpg
Edit2: have yet to check my board but there is a decent chance that out of the box this mobo will not support the E4300 CPU as the most recent bios posted in mid December is the only revision that supports this chip.

You mind doing a direct link. I went to Fry's site and the e4300 isn't listed there.

the mobo is pretty dang hot :)... it takes even a E6600+... so realisticly it'll do 266FSB (and there's a tiny bit bump of vcore on the mobo setting)... so realisticly we're lookin at 9 X 266 :)... i had it before and i know it also does 280fsb ok... i think i went as far as 285FSB.
Man I wonder if they're going to have that deal at the GA locations...

Dam nice deal!!
For me, the mobo can overclock to 299FSB without problems (the BIOS is limited to 300FSB max)

hmm thats odd this site Fry's Electronics weekly ads (http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/) with all the fry's ad's doesnt have that one listed... i sure would love a e4300 for 149...hey i would just give the board away in the classies.

Wow,
That would be close to 2.7GHz then, well 2691MHz.
Sweet, I can't wait,

I went out a got a paper. This deal is confirmed in Georgia. Hoping they still have some tomorrow when I go.

frys-electronic-ads.com has them up now... they were a lil late today... i have been waiting for a deal like this to come!.. My htpc needs just more cpu power ... a p4 2.8 northwood just aint cuttin it.. and this board would be perfect! i could still use my ddr 400 and 6600gt agp! I just cant wait till the prices get cut in marchish... currently the retail value of a E4300 alone is $163... 13 bucks off the suggested retail value... AND A MOBO how could you pass up... and when prices get cut to ~$113 suggested retail... think of it... C2D e4300 and mobo for 100 bucks!
btw does it come with a CPU cooler or no? i still have the stocker from my e6600... so if it doesnt its still good.
And how are the bios options in this board? i heard theres no PCI or AGP lock?
bryan_d
01-27-07, 04:23 AM
Quoted from ocworkbench:
"I was surprised when i saw voltage options in the BIOS. Although the board has voltage options available for Vcore, Vdimm etc, the multiplier is locked for our ES CPU. The FSB range is also limited to up to 300MHz. Without much changes to the voltage levels, we ran the board at 3.30GHz (11x300) by increasing the FSB. This is a plus for those who prefers to run a moderate o/c for stable use."
Here is the article: P4M800PRO-M-V2.0 Review (http://www.ocworkbench.com/2006/ecs/P4M800PRO-M-V2.0/g1.htm)
This is in regards to PCI/AGP Locks:
ECS support told me that the AGP and PCI clocks of the P4M800PRO-M v2 are locked at the standard frequencies (AGP=66MHz, PCI=33MHz) independent of the CPU FSB.
Looks promising to me:)

LOL i have a frys about 10 min away from me... the new one in oxnard is SOOO CLOSE to camarillo its not even funny. N e ways that board looks pretty sweet for the price... i mean a E4300.. 9x300 = 2700mhz max... so even if your running 2.6ghz ur still gonna be on the performance level of a FX 60... for 150! Does the board have undervolting options... cus if i do buy one ima probably end up running stock speeds and if i can undervolt it to produce minimal heat.
BTW is the board single channel... if so owell. and i also wonder if the board has an onboard SPDIF header for digital passthrough?
EDIT... i took a look at the manual for this board and it does in fact have a SPDIF header... YEAH BABY this is looking like a SWEET board for me!

no pci-e slot on this board? if not then i just can't justify purchasing it :bang head . if it does it's going to upgrade my current intel rig so i can have a file server or something laying around for the ****s and giggles of it. as for now i want something that can utilize the x700 pci-e i got laying around also...

just tell them at fry's you want this mobo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135043
it shouldnt cost much more maybe like $10. im purly guessing since IDK if fry's has them listed at the same price or not just for agp vs pci-e.
I have the motherboard and it has NO PCI/AGP LOCK. So beware!
i think we are not talking about 2 different mobos now. i think the one you have is this one
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?DetailID=574&MenuID=93&LanID=9
not this one
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?DetailID=673&MenuID=93&LanID=9
i noticed for a while, while fry's ran the combo's for the 805's with ecs mobo's it was the this one v1.0a not V2 as shown in the new ad. though all the ad's for the e6xxx combos did clearly show the V2 as the mobo.
since IDK check the mobo box plz as to which one you have, i think Fry's did the cheap 805's for a reason to help clear out the V1.0A mobo's.
i will head down to fry's on tuesday to pick up the E4300 combo, but instead of using the ECS mobo i will be buying the Abit IP-95 using the same chipset. few so far using the abit version have been getting past the 300fsb on the ecs mobo's. the IP95 is the same as the ECS with the pci-e since it is well known that abit on then lowend boards uses ecs to make their's.

how could you not justify buying this... the cpu alone will be a minimum of $163 for 13bucks cheaper you get the cpu AND a board which IMO isnt bad considering in my case i can use my ddr 400 and 6600gt AGP.
BTW did the combo deal come with a retail or OEM cpu... and did it come with a HS?
and as stated before the P4M800Pro-M V2 has AGP and PCI LOCKED at 66/33mhz... so its not gonna change.
another quick question... is there any way i can like add on PCI slots... i know they work sorta like USB in that you can split the pci slot into more pci slots... the reason i ask is cus my 6600gt has a big hs on it and would probably block all but 1 slot and i need 2 :-/

Just a note of warning--I've been reading some reviews and the DRIVERS for the board have NOT -- so far -- worked with Vista. Someone even called ECS customer service and (according to the review) told him/her straight out that they would NOT be updating the drivers for Vista on this board.
nd4spdbh2
01-28-07, 01:07 AM
well first off why in the world would you want to run vista
and drivers for what components? cus im sure the audio driver i can get from realtek for vista.
I've been reading mostly about problems with the ethernet port, but some on audio problems as well.
Most of the reviews I read were on CNET and newegg.com

Word to the wise folks, my friend just picked up one of these combos at the Frys in Renton, WA this morning and out of the box the motherboard does not support the e4300 without a BIOS update. You must update the BIOS to the 12/14 version that supports the e4300. Here is the link to the BIOS download on ECS's website.

Won't you not be able to flash the board unless you got a compatible CPU first?

Yeah you need a compatible CPU first, otherwise the system will just not boot (fans spin but nothing happens), it'll sit there and then reboot in about 5 seconds, and then the whole thing just loops. With a compatible CPU installed first you should be able to flash the BIOS and then install your e4300.
I'm going to bring my 930 for him to use tomorrow and we'll see if the 12/14 BIOS really does support the e4300 (according to the ECS site in the link it does).

I just bought this combo for my father. He will be using it mostly for POV RAY rendering for his work. He is lucky that his current setup has an old Intel 515 that I will use to flash this mobo, if needed.
Hopefully all will go well, with the integration. His X300 will also now be out of commision and will be replaced with a modded R9800Pro/XT.
I am hoping this little chip will hit 2.4GHz at least. I have a stock cooler and a AC Freezer 64 Wannabe from Sunbeamtech which should cool it nicely.
I can't wait until I get my e4300:drool:

According to the ECS website, this mobo only supports single-channel memory. Can someone verify this? If so, aren't you going to lose a lot of performance by having only single-channel memory with a dual core processor?

I have one and it's true. I will also attest to the dismal memory performance because of it.
You're also limited to 300MHz FSB if the rest isn't enough.
This might be a nice deal for me, except I have no compatible Intel chip to flash the BOIS with. Do you suppose Fry's would let me take the board to their service area and flash it for me while I'm there with one of their own chips?

Heyo,
I highly doubt they would let you do it. The fella at the counter saidnonchalantly to me to me that it was a "simple" procedure and that everything was available online :)... then he said you just have to use another cpu to update, with a smile of course.

Haha overclocking and that ECS board is almost an oxy-moron. His with value DDR2 533 topped out at 220 FSB. :o I'll ask if he's had any success pushing it higher, but from my experience with the V1.0 flavor of this board I doubt it. Plus single channel RAM with DDR2 = yawn, please wake me up when the memory sobers up.
Something tells me that there is going to be a boatload of these P4M800Pro-M boards on fleaBag in the next few days, if not already.
