my bios says both drives tranfer at udma 5

BUT....now my sandra score is 12600 for a RAID 0 setup....wtf??? do I have something setup wrong or what

Don't use Sandra for benchmarking RAID arrays. It's almost always been wrong for me too and I have 5 PCs with RAID setups.

Go with ATTO or HDTach to see what kind of throughput you're getting.
