SLI mobo or no?

What are your opinions

I'll be playing games mainly, programming, and using photoshop, dreamweaver, etc

i was gonna go with a 680i chipset for SLI but some say its really not worth it

so what do you guys think, 680i or other, and what mobo should i get

24-30" LCD monitor.. sure
