I currently have 512megs of ram and a 10.2gig hard drive and I was wondering how large my permanent swap file should be.

What do you use the computer for? I would go for a 128Mb sized swap file in its own partition. I do some photo editing & some gaming. It's also a good idea to adjust your min & max virtual cache to speed it up a tad more. An app called Cache Booster from AnalogX is great for stuff like this.

set to min 300 and max 300 for gaming
