Intel boards can supposedly run tighter timings. Companies like Corsair will rate a stick of RAM 2-3-3-6 for an Intel setup and of course advertise it as such, and then rate it 2.5-3-3-6 for AMD applications and note this within some harder to find literature. Even on the same socket type, RAM will perform differently from mobo to mobo.
