View Full Version : What methods exist for bandwidth allocation control?

I'm looking for a way to allocate bandwidth to certain services, but I'm not sure how I can do this. I don't think QoS will do what I want, as I think it just prioritizes certain services as apposed to actually setting a bps limit, and I'd like to actually limit bandwidth. Is there anyway I could do something like this? It doesn't even have to be network wide, if there is a an application that will control bandwidth on a single windows machine that would do the trick just fine.
thanks!

With my linksys router, I can set QoS to limit upstream bandwidth to specific applications. (But I can't limit downstream) What router do you have?

WRT54-G not sure which revision, one of the earlier ones as I have the alchemey firmware on it.
Doesn't QoS just use priority settings though? That's the only thing I can select in my firmware, it doesn't give me any bandwidth settings.

30 bucks isn't a bad price, and I might only need the lite version which is even cheaper. Thanks for the link.

Might try a different firmware then
I've used DD-WRT and HyperWRT + Thiborc and they both had bandwidth limiting in QoS

really? Hmm...I'll have to check them out then, that would probably be a better solution then using sofware, although I just downloaded the netlimiter trial to give it a shot; I've got 28 days to try, should be plenty. But I'll probably opt for the firmware in the end since they are free :p
Thanks!
