E6600 rocks, plain and simple. I just recently purchased the same and am very happy with my purchase.

Nice to know. Ive been told the E6600 and 680i are like a dream together.
only problem is its only 2.4 Ghz and most modern games require like 3 Ghz minimum.

That's the beauty of the E6600 and your motherboard. It's easily over clocked to 3.0 and costs less $$$ than the more expensive versions. I have mine running stable at 3.2 using a Zalman fan. These forums have helped me make all the tweaks and to test everything for stability issues. So far so good, I just need some video tweaks and I'll consider myself done for a bit. :)

The CPU is good but don't get a 680i mobo unless you plan on running SLI.

I am planning eventually on running SLi.
and as for overclocking i havnt got a clue where to start. and i doubt i can be bothered to go through the process.

the e6600 will play any game you throw at it perfectly at stock speed. The Core 2 lineup is the sucessor to the Pentium 4/D line up. Its built on a totally different architecture and performs better than the P4/D's top chip. It uses about 40% less power as well.
By purchasing a e6600, you are purchasing a cpu that outperforms AMD's top chip as well, the FX-62. If your not familiar with the AMD line up, prior to the release of Core 2, the Fx-62 was the fastest chip you buy for a desktop. Here are some benchmarks in games showing the e6600 in action:

well thats the main reason im updating my machine because most high end games now require 3 GHz minimum. I hoped that getting this CPU with the 680i would boost my gaming performance. I play Rainbow 6 Vegas and it lags so much with my current CPU.

You should read up on your processors. Higher Ghz does not necessarily mean better performance.

yes, i agree. maybe that game 'requires' a 3ghz pentium4. as for a64's and c2d's, you cannot take the clockspeeds they list seriously.

The pic rocks HBB as always ;).
On topic... Agreed with everything said, 3.0Ghz is what they say due to enough people still running a P4 architecture and it means nothing when you throw a A64 or C2D at it. You will be simply amazed with the E6600 as its a very very fast chip.

aparently amd got deperate and released another fx think its 72 and the e6600 blows it away as well!

if you dont use a big monitor as in 24' or up sli would be a waste of money for you

with the fx-70, 72 and 74, you actually get TWO dual core cpu's for the price. and they are only to be used for 4x4. ;)
