I bought one 80mm fan filter so I wouldn' t blow all that dust into my rig
When I booted up I felt that there was less air coming thru the vent (The fan is bottom front)
Was the fan filter worth it?
Also I just dished out $30 for rounded cables because I thought they would improve the airflow in my case
I had folded my previous cables just like in those Voodoo computers and that seemed to be working better than the rounded cables
There is no room to stuff the rounded cables into and they are obstructing the front fan
What should I do to them?   :D

ouch that must of hurt the wallet....

I would just fold the normal cables or slice them and use zip ties....

as for a filter just open your case once in a while and clean it - much better than sacraficing air flow!

I use a filter on my 120, but I really needed it, I was getting a lot of dust, and I can sacrifice a little airflow with that big a fan...It does help.

My intake fans generate a lot of CFM & without the filter I would be cleaning my system every 2 weeks, something that I don't feel like doing. You can give me the rounded cable if you don't like 'em:D

I just did what you did. I put filters on the 2 120mm fans in the bottom of my case. Yes, they did reduce the airflow, but they did not increase the temps, I have 2 compunurse thermal probes in my case. My filters were totally worth it. Twice I dropped things next to my computer and they were sucked in. The styrofoam peanuts flying arround were kinda funny looking. They looked and sounded like popcorn.

The rounded cables are another story. I have enough room that the flat ones are not in the way, but I decided to get them anyway and put them on my RAID. The next day my RAID corrupted. A 0+1 RAID does wonders to protect against drive failure, but does nothing to provent data corruption. I am still playing with them tom confirm it was the cables and not something else, like a controller going bad.

I've had the rounded cables on my raid 0 for a while now with no problems. Unless you bought them from some guy's trunk they shouldn't corrupt your data :D

Right on, a 120 gives you enough flow to spare... I even found that the filter quieted things down a bit...

They are the Vantec ones that PCnut was selling as a fund raiser for the Red Cross.

I know they should not cause the problem and am not totally convince that they are the problem, but they are the likely suspects.

I used thick filters (this spongy stuff I had laying around) on a Antec SX635 and I didn't notice any temp drops. And filters are absolutely worth it. No filters will lead to dust in everything including your heatsink and power supply which will cause blockages of airflow. The fans will get a layer of dust on them too but I don't know how it affects them, can't be good.

you can get cheap air filters at home depot or other hardware store. Get the window unit AC air filter. Its <$3 for a huge sheet of the stuff. The less dense one is $1 but doesn't catch much dust unless you double-layer. Don't get electrostatic filters! :)

I was going to do what you did-buy a big filter from Home Depot but I am going to get a window for my case and didn' t want it to look cheap

i have enough fans in my system to blow out any dust i get in my pc

Eventually even a fan filter will clog up and then stop air flow all together.

My case has 450CFM going through it so its a Hovercraft, and I wanna get a 80CFM Delta...

Just clean ya case out every 6months or so, the Dust won't damage anything just add a degree or so to the Heat.

since starting this thread my fan filter has already got a lot of dust in the filter
does ne1 know how to clean it?
also I switched the front intake to a Enermax and now there is less air coming out because it has a temp probe on it and the fan adjusts the speed itself depending on the temps
Can I mod it to run the fatest it can all the time?

That is what I thought with my 4 120mm Sunons at 103 CFM. I was just going to put grills on them. What I found was that the fans actually caused more dust to collect on what they were blowing on.

Most of them you can just rinse off with water. If they are really bad use a little dish detergent. Take them off the computer first! and let them dry before you put them back on.

LMAO

faraday has a cool case - 6 120mm fans for ventilation - STOCK!!!

over 600CFM air movement

My CFM is now 585CFM!!!

3Delta's, 1 68CFM Delta, 8 x 46CFM Ys-Techs, 3x45CFM Card Coolers and a few other fans and coolers!!!!

I need a new PSU!

Is there such thing as a 500Watt Anantec? I already have a 400Watt....

wow this is wierd
I did the exact thing you said but did not read this before cleaning the filter:eek:
also is one 92mm 51cfm fan in the front better than two 80m fans(unknown cfm)
