First of all let me say Hello to yall! coz i'm new here :)

Lets get to the point, here is my config:
C2D E6400 FPO# 7638A405 (Phillipines, 2006, week 38, lot 405)
ASUS P5B-Dlx BIOS 1004
2x512MB GeIL PC2-6400 4-4-4-12
Gigabyte GF 7600GT 256MB SilentPipe2
2xMaxtor 250GB Sata2
1xNEC ND4571
PSU Hiper HPU-4M530
ThermalTake Soprano Black
Modded ThermalTake BigWater+Additional Aquabay

My problem is, i cant get FSB past 375 cool&stable
Now i'm at 2,8 GHz(8*350) vcore=1.250 mem is over 1000MHz 5-5-5-18 and it's fine but i want more :bang head

I already tried higher voltages on vcore(up to 1.4V), vnb, vsb, vtt with no success.
Also already downgraded BIOS to 910 with no success in OCing FSB over 375.

So my question is do i have to downgrade BIOS to 804 and try again or its worthless coz i.e. my C2D is not so good for OCing as those from Malay.

THX guys, awaiting reply :)

Nice specs, should be fine. I assume your VID is ~1.1xx range. Don't be afraid to kick it up to 1.375-1.380 for everyday use.

Skip the 360-399FSB range. Go directly to 400FSB and she will rock.

thx and yeah VID was about 1.164~1.190

done as you said but it was not stable at 1.3750~1.4000 so i pushed it to 1.4200 but the f**ker is so hot!
TAT shows 51 for core 0 & 44 for core 1 idle and about 75 and countig on full load

i dont know... maybe the calculations are wrong coz i'm on Vista Enterprise since 30.11.2006
any clues?

anyway now i'm going back to 2.8 at 1.25V and waiting for replies :)
thx

Hi, as bobad says there's a strap change at 400FSB - try dropping the multi and going straight in at 430x7 (3010MHZ). Just for grins run your memory by SPD at 1:1 and try the following:

Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Vcore: 1.3500
FSB Term: 1.400
NB Vcore: 1.45
SB Vcore: 1.60
ICH Volt: Auto

thx for advice t0t3k your suggestion was perfect it was rock stable and reached on full load:
core 0 temp: 68
core 1 temp: 63
VID: 1.3120

so i pushed it harder to fsb 450 and it was stable at last at:
vcore 1.4125
multi: 7
nb vcore: 1.45
sb vcore: 1.60
VID: 1.368
and reached
core 0 temp: 75
core 1 temp: 69
so its too hot i think...

got to get better colling or another C2D

any suggestions right after?

Back off all you can on the VCore. You may be surprised how high you can clock at 1.3875 VCore.

Here's a quick an dirty check: Set your VCore to 1.400, FSB to 425. If your water block is seated properly, case well ventilated, and your probe software is correct, you should be idling between 45-50 Deg.

EDIT: I'm hearing that Vista doesn't play nice with some of the temperature probe software.

Congratulations on finding a good chip, and good luck.

thx bobad i'll do the check but what multi? 7 or 8?

i'm also going to prepare a winxp bootcd with some oc/bench soft to check if everything is ok.

i'll be posting results 2morrow
bye :)

NP :) Just remember that Intel TAT was designed for Intel developers pushing the thermal envelope! It spanks the hell out of your CPU loads more than any real world application will, try using Orthos Stress Prime for stability testing.

In regard to temps. I Try and keep the digital thermal sensors (Core Temp, Intel TAT.) readings are under 70C. Thermal throttling kicks in at 85C based on the DTS temp.

Using Speedfan 4.31 (which uses a conventional thermal diode that approximates Tcase unlike TAT which uses the digital thermal sensors on each core), at 450x7 I get 44C idle and 58C load under Orthos.

done as you said bobad and my baby wont even boot :(
trying to raise nb vcore to 1.45 and sbvcore to 1.60 didnt work but thx anyway

t0t3k: i dont use built in TAT solutions, im a 3D GFX geek so i use MaxwellRender with a specially designed benchmark scene. it really stresses the processor, so as everyone in 3D community i would like to have shorter rendertimes keping proc cold and silent :)

The test Scene and results:

Maxwell Render itself:

aaah, and yesterday i tried 375*8 at 1.3 i thought its stable but unfortunately after 10 mins it rebooted

THX, have a nice weekend and ...to be continued... :)

yeah u read right but u can download demo for free the only difference between licensed and free version is it gives u output image with some watermark, so u cant use commercially :)

i dont know the temp in bios yet as im gonna remod my wc and throw it off the case so inside only waterblock stay

gonna feed u with some info within couple of hours

cheers :)

so, after few hours of fight here is what i did

Before remod everything was inside except the radiator /w fan, the pump is not visible-its behind second hdd mounting wall, the water tank is not visible as well-its right under the DVD on top.

After remod only waterblock inside other parts are as for now on the desk (im gonna mount it under the desk so it will not be visible.

going back to u after few tests :)

btw, what config should i use in my wc now its:
pump->water tank->radiator->waterblock->pump

btw: is the OEM cooler any good? Cause i spent almost all my money and now its gone to buy the new h2o stuff... So CAN i test the cpu/ram/board for max fsb w/o water ? Dunno how far the multi can be adjusted in 'the wrong direction' ;)

And is there a way to disassemble the Heatpipe ? Cause when i get the water i'll change the NB coller but im not willing to spend another 30 for the voltage things cause i think the cooler on them is sattisfying, assume i have a 120 at cpu height.

The stock hs/f that came with the cpu? It's adequate, but remove the thermal conductive gum that came on it and put artic silver 5 on instead. You won't be able to max out the system because of heat. These cpu's get pretty hot.
The heatpipe/nb is attached by pushpins. So it is removable.
What are the specs for your system, Paule?

So... finally i can feed with some test results :)

Code:

If you haven't seen this yet,, http://thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=41 , it's pretty good for starters.
What is your voltage and timings to your ram?
What do you have "enabled" and "disabled" in your cpu config area in the bios?
Did you try to give the nb more juice?
What is your fsb freq voltage?
Man, I can't get over the disparity in the idle/load temps.. Up to 36 degrees. You sure that waterblock is seated good?
Can you give us a close up shot of that wb?

Hi OnDborder thx for thw link, so the settings are:
Multi: Enabled and set as in the table
C1E: Disabled
TM2: Disabled
PECI: Disabled
Execution Disable Bit: Enabled
VanderPool Tech: Enabled
Spectrum Spread: Disabled

FSB Voltage is stated in the table under VTT(i dont remember where i get this abbreviation from, but it was on the net somewhere)
RAM Voltage: is 2.35 but the ASUS AI Suite shows 2.3
Test was done with 1:1 for ram with following timings:
5-5-5-18-5-42-3-10-3-14 starting from the top.
Static Read: Disabled
and no - i didnt juced the NB more as u can see in the table under Vcore NB.

I think WB is seated properly but its the ordinary ThermalTake waterblack with 6.4mm(1/4") inner diameter
You can find this set here:
http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Liguid/DIY/cl-w0005-01/cl-w0005-01.asp

and here is the pic of the waterblock:

btw i've found something strange:

as u can see on the pics the temps-per-core are diffrent in TAT and in Core Temp, also the CPU reading are mismatched between CPU-Z and Core Temp-one showing its Conroe, another its Allendale.
Which one should i trust

cheers and hx fo sugestion, will do some more tests, so wait for results :)
