View Full Version : broken 1900+? OEM, OMG?!!!
for some reason i can't run my 1900+ at 133 fsb. actually i cant even run it at 130 fsb. it just freezes on win2k load.
i can run things fine on 100 fsb.
the thing is if i leave my comp off at night or just cool it off, i can run at 133 fsb till it gets around 52 C or so, and it freezes and i can't use 133 fsb anymore, just freezes.
ive got a enermax 350 watt psu and epox kha+ wit (11/2) bios.
one of my friends told me that the chip is broken, please dun tell me its broken, because its already been a week and its OEM.
Try raising the memory voltage to 2.7v.
Also 52c is pretty warm for a xp cpu but not dangerous unless thats your idle temp then it might be heat causing your trouble.
Feel the heatsink with the pc on (don't stick your fingers in the fan) it should be very warm if its on right. Make sure the cpu fan is spinning.
If all thats good leave the cover off your case and see if your temps go down alot (10c or more) if they do you need to get better airflow thru your case.
I agree with the prior respondent. In my experience when the chip is defective it is a no go. The machine beeps at me and the little lights flash but the monitor gives me this blank stare. What multiplier are you using and check the pci buss speed as well. On the ddr voltage take it easy and don't get mad and start cranking up the voltage. A little bit on ddr goes a long ways. It would be my geuss it is a setup problem, FSB, pci Buss, multiplier, voltage, either on motherboard or in bios.
Now the status on the chip is based on my experience and I have only KILLED two chips to date. 750 Duron, chipped core and one beautiful 1.0 R t-bird that would do 1.66 prior to its untimely static hit.
OMG, ure right
i took off the case, and the temp drop 10 C!
i idle at 39-40
and full load at around 48 (wit hte burn in test from sisoft)
ibut ut did still freeze though for some reason when i was playing.
bah, but i think im stil lgonna go wit gettinga dragon +
hmmm, it seems that i still can't run games without freezing.
ran q3, froze after i got into a actual game.
Please list all your componets, memory, heatsink, etc.
Also if your motherboard has a 200-266 cpu jumper make sure it is set to the 266 position.
This definitely sounds heat related to me, as well....
I'm curious what you're running for a HSF, and thermal compound... 52c under load is quite a bit high, esp. for an XP... a T-Bird that's about right, but the XP's run cooler.
You say you take the case side off, and the temps go down?? Then you need to look at case cooling, as well... What do you have for fans, where, and what direction are they blowing??
We're gonna need a bit more info to really be able to help ya out...
ive got a VANTEC CCK-6027D hsf
and ive got Arctice Silver II on the north, south, and the cpu.
and i know that the hsf is making contact because when i took off the hsf, it had the arctice silver marks.
and its a ENERMAX EG365P-VE(FC) (350 watts) PSU.
ive got a sunon case fan on, ive got another, but havent cut the back of my case to fit it in yet. ive also ordered 2 more enermax case fans with heat sensors. with that order i boug the Dragon +, to replace my epox 8kha+ mobo (11/2 bios)
ive got a stick of mushkin 512 DDR 2100 high performance cas 2 ram.
diamond viper 770, Aureal Vortex 2500.
I think I would try another memory stick if you have one.
Also you can try using the settings mushkin recommends thou they do not mention the 512mb ddr.

Did you look at the code on the cpu and verify you were really sent a xp 1900+?
yeah, ive checked the cpu, and it does say 1900+
hmmm, im gonna go try those setting right now....
From the sounds of it, you need better case cooling, or more agressive cooling on your Northbridge. I might try to put a Crorb or a Blorb on the Northbridge if all else fails.
well, tried those settings still no luck.
more aggressive cooling?
isnt the hsf on it enough? it even has arctic silver ii on it.
well, u guys think it could be the mobo?
my dragon plus is ocming in 5 days
In addition to your cooling problem, check the voltages from your power supply, under a load the 5V may be dropping. These 8KHA+ motherboards are reported to be rather finicky with regards to the 5v rail, and if I remember correctly, some users have reported problems with the Enermax units.
Good Luck!
yeah, i was loong at the 5v, is it bad if its at 4.96? this was when i was in the cmos, no heavy load.
Its probably the Enermax PS. Check your 5v rail and tell us what its running at while at full load.
Goto amdmb.com and check the Epox forums there. Look at how many posts are about enermax PS

My 5V rail hits 4.85 lowest, seems fine got a 400Watt PSU for £35 no-name...
