If i had the money I would get a XBOX 733mhz, 64mb DDR video card... its awesome totaly!! think about the graphics you can get out of that no operating system set hardware! if it take a 800mhz computer with a 32mb video card to emulate a 33mhz psx games think what you could get with 733Mhz

Well ive personally played all three system and even though the X-Box has the superior polygon pushing power its not the best system as far as im concerned. SONY knew exactly what they were doing when they released their system a year before their competitors. Not only was the PS2 the first next generation system (not counting Dreamcast due to its spectacular failure) but it also gave PS2 game developers a year to build up their game base and pump out their top of the line games like Gran Turismo 2 and Metal Gear Solid 2.

I dont know what Nintendo was thinking with the lack of DVD play back on the Game cube, and why mini disks? Come on Nintento get with the program DVD is where its at.

But on another note the X-box controlley is seriously uncomfortable and way the hell too big, but the Game Cube controller is actually very comfortable but its ugly as all hell.

Just remember, you asked for it.

The short of it is the X-Box is the most powerful system out so far. The Gamecube is a close second. PS2 is a distant third, power wise. So, any "reasonable" person should obviously be biased towards using the X-Box with it's kick a$$ computer components. And of course the same "reasonable" person would never buy the Gamecube, becuase it uses Apple components, and "what were they thinking not using full sized DVD's anyway?" This makes the obvious choice the X-Box, because any "reasonable" person would never be caught with anything less.

So, what's my first "Next Gen" console going to be? It's already the Dreamcast.

But what about the X-Box? I thought you just said it was the coolest!

It is. Hardware wise. Game wise, there are no games to interest me enough to purchase it yet. My next gaming console will be the PS2, followed by the Gamecube.

But the X-Box is so much like a PC, it'd get benchmarks in Quake that would blow the others away! At least 180+ fps!

So? Look at it this way. A movie moves at an astounding 24 frames per second. And who complains about frame rate in a movie? 60 frames per second is more than enough to win any person over, any more than that and the developer should have been more worried about the quality of the graphics over the number of frames they can pump out in a single second.

If you don't care about the hardware (as any "reasonable" person should) why would you purchase these new consoles. You should be satisfied with your old (*shudders*) 8 bit Nintendo.

It's all about the games. Soulcaliber. Metal Gear Solid. Final Fantasy. Ico. Rogue Leader. Mario 64. Zelda. The games are the only reason to buy the console, and in my opinion it should never be the other way around.

Unfortunately, that'll be what kills the GameCube off. First of all, they went with a format that requires new pressing equipment. Second of all, they currently have very little if any 3rd party licencees (they have a lot of good 1st party and probably very shortly, 2nd party games). It would be nice if they got SquareSoft back on board, but I don't think that is going to happen.

W/ the minidiscs, Nintendo was thinking that "smaller is better." which is not a terrible philosophy. But I think it'll go the way of Betamax. Betamax was smaller and it still failed; it didn't have enough support behind it. Same thing here I think. Nintendo has the technology, but they are just a few steps behind.

Only three reasons not to get the X-Box is that :

a)You already have alot PS or PS2 games

b)X-Box can and most likely will port a number of its good games to PC(like Halo :) )

c) want to play the new Starfox, Mario, and Zelda games when they come out.

Reasons:
The PS2 already looks dated to me, by alot, when compared to computer games or X-Box.
The X-Box has the hardware to keep going for quite a while.
I have always liked Starfox and Zelda for Nintendo.:D

For those who who say not to get the X-Box due to its lack of games just give it some time to get the games out.

Well, Im not going to buy any of these stupid consoles on release, the prices are way out of line! But i would get Xbox if i had the money. Anyway, ill just get another comp instead :)
btw- i think Nintendo was thinking about anti-piracy when making the discs so small ;)

well, I like all of them. On one side, ps2 has many awsome titles such as mgs 2 gta 3 gt3 thps3...ff series, and squaresoft on their side. They have a big library of games....xbox superior hardware, project gotham and doa3 are some ncie titels, and I think wiht shenmue's creator making games on it, its gonna sell alot in japan....xbox has better stuff to offer, but not as many games for now....now gamecube this suprised me (oh yeah about teh polygons, doesnt the gamecube do spheres instead?) it has outsolf both ps2 and xbox on their opening days....nintendo is getting out of the little kiddie age a little, some more mature games are coming out.I have xbox, and ps2....may get gamecube too. Dreamcast was really nice for its time, but since sega ditched it, well tis out, but I still like its games....

i personally think Xbox. It is a great system that you can fun with over the internet or a network.

I think the Xbox will put an end to all the rest of the game systems.
Forget all the hardware talk behind them all. Look at who is backing the Xbox.....Gates, weather you love or hate him he is a Genius. He owns the PC world and a large part of Mac. What do you think he will do with this? Its just a matter of time..... I thought nintendo was dead along time ago, and I think sony will slowly bite the dust. Just look how many PS2's are for sale on Ebay:)
I bought a PS2 for my son, and I have to say I'm very disapointed in the graphics, even on my digital tv the graphics seem so blocky. I guess thats why I'm a straight PC gamer....

thats my 0.02C

If I had to buy any of them, I'd buy a PS2. You can play all of the classic games from PS1 on them, plus you get DVD output and Dolby 5.1 sound (unfortunatly not DTS, but what're you gunna do)?

I would never waste my money on any of them, but if I had to choose between them it would be the Nintendo gamecube. Nintendo's been around for a very long time, and there not going to disappear any time soon.

(dont know how to do quotes)

but its a great deal for any console....great games, convenience, right on your tv??? And i think it has better games too...(uh oh, I feel anger here)

I think that ps2 is the best choice. Tradiionally Ive been a big nintendo fan, but after n64, and no dvd, I got discouraged, although they are now starting to market to a little more mature gaming age. But the reason why ps2, is that its library is soo big, and they have so many must have titles. BUt on the other hand xbox does have shenmue 2 comign doa3....and some other great titles that could make it sell big. The thing that amzed me the most hardware wise, how did nintendo, ibm and ati fit all that hardwre in the gamecube??

Yeah, just thought I'd bring the fact that the 'minidisc' are, IIRC, 'miniDVD' not classical minidisc. The reason for that being so that when DVD writers start becoming consumer purchasable (not too far off), NES games can't be easily copied. Of course, I find it a lot easier to download SNES roms and then ZSNES than find a PS ISO and then a PS emulator. And FYI: My SNES broke a while back and I tried to find a Resident Evil 2: Claire CD because my cousin's got so scratched ti wouldn't play. I'm not warezing it. I got my whole SNES library now, still couldnt' find RE2. Ah well.

My only words for Nintendo are about Zelda: What were you thinking?! It looked so awesome and now it's...like...a disney cartoon. I want gothic Zelda!

PC is still on the top of my list. How long do you think it will be until Game Cube ISOs hit the net, PS2 emulators are (I think) already out, and the XBox... I don't need to talk about emulating that. If your PC is far enough ahead of the curve, you can do any console on the PC.

X-box of course best hardware configuration, best games, etc...Too Pricy
Gamecube hardware configuration not so good (weak), just one nice game "Luigi's M", size of CD game's not even the standart cd size :(...Nice price
PS2 nice hardware configuratin, nice games, cool fetures!!!
But i wolud pick X-Boz because i beleive it will shows reaaly cool stuff in a closer future!!

bond read this about gamecube,

http://gamespot.com/gamespot/features/video/gamecube_dossier/

gamecubes power is actually quite impressive to me. Look at how IBM packed that much power in the size of that cpu!! And also xbox does have some good games, and they are improving everyday, but sony has a lead in better and more games...they knew what they were doing when they released their system a year earlier, so they could build up a good library of games. I like them all, gamecube for being portable and the power they put in it, and the resident evil series...ps2 because alot of great games, xbox for superior hardware also being an american company thats stepping up in the console market.

This debate has continued throught many magazines, schools, and even television programs... I think it boils down to personal opinion and loyalty.
The PS2 is an amazing system, with great games, graphics, and controls... Everyone is used to the controller from the ps1. The fact that it will play ps1 games and dvds helped to boost its popularity. Plus, the genius decision to release a year early helped sales skyrocket. However, there are some, like myself, who don't like the ps2 (except for a few select games) and despise the ps1(me). I don't understand why it got all the popularity it did.

The Gamecube is probably the biggest waste of a system I've ever seen. Except for a few games, the selection is awful. Nintendo hangs on to too much for sentimental reasons. Plus, after the death of the n64, Nintendo tried too hard to keep old games alive (we don't need the 239048289347 games of Mario for these systems - we all beat the 3 nes versions, snes version, and mario 64 in a combined time of 45 minutes). I think had gamecube tried to venture out into new places for their system, they would have had much better results.

And now to the XBox. The XBox is probably the most technologically advanced gaming system on the market. However, this is inevitable being created by Gates and microsoft. I think that microsoft was concerned with making it similar to a computer (hard drive, ethernet connection, etc.). Luckily for them, this had an amazing impact on the gaming community.... Plus, with the introduction of many computer-like games (i.e. Halo), the profits climbed farther. Plus, dvd viewing (with an optional wireless remote!) and cd copying (no burning, just recording to the hard drive... if you have an external burner with analoge out (red and white), you can burn with it!) helped microsoft even more.

In the end, I was very confused what to buy when they first came out. However, I played all of them and I now am a diehard XBox fan. I'm 100% satisfied with my decision and will be forever... However, (this is the ps2's only plus), I'll be happier when the games drop below $50 per game....

I never played any of them when I decided to get an X-Box. I had played a Playstation 1 and did not think very highly of the graphics and I heard from several friends and it became obvious from commercials that the majority of the games for the Game Cube where for children and decided to get an Xbox. I only have one game and it is NFL Fever 2002. I don't plan on getting anymore for awhile because I am purchasing a new computer but GO Xbox!

I bought a X-BOX but had to return it and get a PS2. I really didnt like the x-box . The games were really expensive, and the loading time on DOA2 was long. But the graphics were amazing. Controller really sucked. Gamecube has an awesome controller. It looks plain and boring, but when you play a game the buttons are so nicely placed. just my $.02

I don't agree at all. Halo is the only reason I'd buy an X-box. And when it comes out on p.c. the will be no reason.
3 of my friends bought them and 2 were sent back. DOA.
It's a new company. (as far as console gaming) And it's got many flaws. Sony has owned the market since it came out and I believe will continue to be in the future, watching the x-box's demise the whole time.

And I'm not even going to talk about the lack of games available to x-box...

As far as Gamecube? Didn't Nintendo quit being a productive company 5 years ago? I think they are now grasping for anything that they hope the media will think is"cool" rather than try to be functional.

That's what I think.

Are you kidding?!?
They've made way to many mistakes recently and are headed in a downward spiral. Look at the posts of the peole here. So far, 1 person for gamecube out of everyone. And no one has a reason to be biased. They simply don't choose gamecube for a reason. They will have to do something drastic, and soon to keep that company from dissapearing completely.

...Nintendo's been around for a very long time

That's the only thing going for them right now.

Xbox sold 1.5 million units by the end of 2001 and 4.5 million games. Halo is a good reason to buy the Xbox too, a survey of retailers 90% of Xbox owners purchased Halo at the time they purchased their Xbox.

250 games are currently in development for the Xbox, adding to it's already expansive gaming library, which far outnumbers the GameCube's. One of the most notable in development is Project Ego. It is an RPG where your actions in the game affect how your character grows. It is also currently one of the only Xbox games that uses up the entire DVD.

Xbox has arrived and it's here to stay. I am the proud owner of one and six games.

Get it for the games, get it for the hardware, in either case, GET IT!

I like the Nintendo Gamcube and the ps2 the best. Xbox is the mos tpowerful one, but iM not paying to support Nvida.....and also, it doesnt have any games that I must have. And to tell you the truth, i doesnt really look any better than my ps2, or gamecube. I lie gamecube, b/c its from nintendo, its cheaper, and it has some nice games like gta3 coming out summer, sega sports, super smash brothers, and capcom with resident evil. People say nintendo is for kiddies, but it is not. Some gamesare for kiddies, and Ive played them and I think they are fu. Games are all abouthaving fun..... not worrying if this is mature for mt age. Another reason is, I cant stand the xbox controller....itshard to reach the top buttons....and it loud when it rumbles.I like ps2 for its games, nintendo for ATI price and games, and dislike xbox because nvida, and not many games I se that id want in the future.....

Well it's loud when it rumbles because it has TWO motors that power the force feedback, compared to the single motor seen in N64's rumble pak and DC's jump pack or tremor pack.

As for the controller, it's really made for adult-sized hands. I don't have the largest hands in the world, but the controller fits just perfectly in my hands. The buttons were a hassle at first but you quickly become accustomed to it. Also note GTA3 is coming to the Xbox as well.

I'm sorry but hating the Xbox simply because has an Nvidia GPU under the hood is one of the worst excuses I've heard yet. Trust me, not a bit of that $300 goes to Nvidia, it all goes to Microsoft. All the money Nvidia was going to make off the Xbox has been made and was made before November 15th.

Meril-Lynch has estimated Microsoft loses $125 per console manufactured because MS sells the Xbox for well under the cost of manufacturing it (Rumored to be close to $450 per Xbox). For Microsoft to actually make a profit, they need to push 1st party games. That means they actually have to produce quality games that lots of people will buy, like Halo. Microsoft is well dedicated to the Xbox and it's success.

Why buy a GameCube? It may be fun now and doing so-so, but look at the Dreamcast. It had a mild success comparable to GC's at launch, it was fun too, with smash hit titles like Shenmue and Crazy Taxi and Marvel Vs Capcom 2, but it tanked. Rumors have been circulating for sometime now, that since the N64's lack luster performance and the die out of Pokemon, the GameCube is Nintendo's last bastion, if it fails, they go the way of Sega, very quickly.

You got a company on the verge of losing it all or a rock-solid company with a 5-year dedication plan and the pressure to put out stellar 1st party titles. You know where my vote lay.

x-box i think is the best becuse of its hardware and if u wait for a few mounth (around july) there will be games that will make all others look like crap and about the controller i think its fine even though its large it fits fine in a med and large hand so sorry for the small handed people

the ps2 is good becuse of all the tittles that are already out

the gc dont get it unless u want to play mario stuff and it has bad graphics

so overall the xbox is the best

X-Box has the most powerfull hardware, and in a year or two there will be a large sized collection of games for it and it will come down in price a bit and i will probably buy one.First Person Shooters on consoles are not fun, cant wait untill HALO comes out for PC. PS2 has awesome graphics and a large collection of games, and you can play the PS1 games on it too. At this point of time PS2 is the way to go.
