Can anyone recommend a decent jet/modern combat flight sim? Once upon a time they were being released all the time but it seems like years since a decent one came out.

The ones I can remember that were good, were all done by Janes.

Yeah Janes had some good ones. They were real innovators and leaders in the field I thought (i.e. Longbow and F-15). There just doesn't seem to be anything like that around anymore.

The only real game in town is Lock On: Modern Air Combat. Game has a real cult following and is extremely technical. Might just be right up your alley http://www.lo-mac.com/

Hey cool, I'll check that out. I prefer the technical sims over the arcade style. Thanx

Falcon 4.0:allied force.

It's a SIMULATION not at all a game..took me 10 min to learn how to start the engine (lol).

Hit me up if you get it and we can fly missions together.

IS this a stand-alone or an ad-on for Falcon 4.0? Their website wasn't too clear.

how new is it compared to falcon 4.0 graphics wise. it always got me how flight sim games had the worst graphics and no detail

From what I can tell, the graphics are no different to the original Falcon 4 and it looks pretty dated.

Still, it's better than nothing.

I recommend Lockon: Modern Air Combat. Very, very technical and the graphics are decent, to boot. Several add-on's are available for it that enhance weaponry detail, implements additional aircraft and gives you different campaings.

It stresses the hell out of the system I have posted in my sig. I'd imagine a 7800GTX would be the minimum to run it at full graphics settings at a good resolution. I can only imagine the new MS flight sim would top it in image quality... but not by too much.

I'd recommend a good flight stick and a throttle control peripheral with the game...

I have a crib sheet, if you will, for flight take off instructions, communication protocols, etc...

I haven't played online for a long while so I don't know if there's a community left, but when I did, I felt like a civilian thrown into a mix of retired russian airforce pilots... it was intense and I was pwnt, badly.

Here's my 2 cents:
If you want all the eye candy and a relatively good game go ahead and buy Lock On. You'd be happy with that if that is all you're looking for.

If you're looking for a great simulation go ahead and buy 4.0 . The game is extremely technical and is amazingly very realistic, maybe close to being too realistic.

I'm not biased, I own both games, but I enjoy Falcon 4.0:Allied force because 1: the realism
2: the campaign mode (is actually like war where you push the enemy line back, or your side gets pushed back)
3: Great replay value with ranks.

That's my .02

Interesting... I can't imagine anything more 'technical' than LOMAC... unless 4.0 is very similiar to MS Flight Sim. X. If you have any examples of how they differ, I'm interested.
I'll have to see if I can bag that for cheap. LOMAC does have a lack of a good campaign interaction. I only really played the multiplayer on a regular basis.

well for starters the manual for 4.0 is 800 pages, and it could be longer....trust me. Thankfully it's in PDF format though, lol.

I think it's around 19 bucks at best buy and walmart among other places.
