Wonder how long it will take before we see this in our favorite distros?

Huh, sounds pretty interesting.
We're seeing a lot more use of VMWare now, so who knows what the future will bring with this.

My hope is that this support will bring near (i.e. as close as possible) native Folding speed to VMWare users.

You have it backwards.
For those that run VMWare + GPU in windows, this will not effect them at all. As the host OS, Windows is the problem. Now if you run linux and then virtualization, windows or any other OS then out of the box you will be able to run them.
Xen is still the better option only because it supports paravirtualization, along with full virtualization. Paravirtualization, allows for virtualization of hardware even if the hardware does not support it. Also paravirtualization is how it is possible to have the guest OS use a virtual piece of every hardware, while with full virtualization there are some limits still as not every piece of hardware can handle the protocols.
Anyway, this is a great step, as the problem I have with Xen is the same problem I ahev with Crossover Office and WineX...while Xen Source is free and open source, they have profited off of it with their enterprise additions.
This is a great step closer to desktop virtualization.

Ahh, Ok... that makes sense. So no big impact on teh Fold here. Drat! I thought we might be getting a speed bump.
Doesn't surprise me that the Linux gang has come around to bringing support for virtualization into their kernel much quicker than M$ will or ever will for that matter. Because nothing seems to run well on Vista  I doubt this will be any different.
Thanks for clearing that up for us Shell!

Xen performs better then vmware Server, actually pretty close to vmware ESX Server. Maintainance is not as straight forward, the guests need modified kernels to run ect.
Atleast RHEL 5 will support it natively, probably have ready kernels for the guests too.
I think M$ is really more about milking the $ cow with monopoly like power than any kind of innovation or creativity ... it is very hard for any big organization to really operate in innovative ways until there is a clear $ need to do so .... I see m$ operating now the way IBM did back in the 80's (i worked at IBM then) ... behaving and thnking as if they were the centre of the universe ... and it won't change until the gates/balmer cadre of leadership (and their replacements) are forced by the marketplace to change their beliefs and thinking.
In the meantime, the linux universe is expanding and at some point will envelop most of the m$ one, just like m$ and sun did to IBM in the late 80's and 90's. In IBM's case, Gerstner did a good job of morphing IBM into a redefined business model. Only time will tell if M$ can do the same thing, or end up becoming tomoorow's Novell.
Sun seems to be trying to morph ... eg its virtualization efforts with intel.
/edit sheesh ... i just re read your thread H ... man did i go off on a tangent :o
