I've notice that most of you say that your cpu at idle is around
32c to 37c. However, my cpu runs at about 43c to 49c at idle.
I have an Athlon XP 1600+
256 pc 2100 crucial
320 watt power suplly
Shuttle AK 31 V3.1
Velocd 24 10 40
Dvd player
CoolerMaster DP5-6H51 heatsink with fan.

I checked AMD's site and I noticed that my heatsink is only rated
up to 1500+ XP. Could this be the reason my cpu is running higher
than most?

PS. This machine was built last night so I haven't tested it at full load.

Possibly...what fan do you have on that heatsink?

coolmaster's aren't all that and usually come with wimpy fans.. i've got two different coolmasters sitting around here. good enough for my k6-2 450 though :)

If I were you, I'd pick up something like a Glaciator II. You'll get really good temps then, w/o much noise.

The HSF you have now isreally not cutting it. You might want to check this guide (http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/) for a replacement HSF.

Thanks for the replies. Sure enough, it's my fan. It delivers 17cfm
and it needs to be more along the lines of 27cfm. So I ordered one today. Oh well, one more week without it won't kill me.

Thank ya'll so much, ShyBoy
