I just mirrored my old drive to my new 320gig seagate sata2 perp. drive. but now for some reason it seems to be running slower than when I used the pata drive. I took out the pin in the back so i can run 3.0gb/s but on hdtuner it says max it is getting 70mb/s. what is up?
3Gb/s is what SATA2 is capable of and nothing more. No single mechanical drive is going to touch that.
70MB/s is pretty good for a single drive and I can't say anything is wrong with yours. If it seems slow, then there may be something else affecting your OS. Considering you went from a PATA install to SATA with the same image, it could be a driver conflict. May also want to check the fragmentation of the drive after transferring the image. If your drive was fragmented before imaging it, then your image contains a fragmented image, and it will transfer that way.
From a pure bandwidth perspective, I'd say your drive benched well.

For maximum transfer rate, 70 is pretty good, burst, not so great, that drive should burst quite a bit higher than that. What did you use to test it? My 7200.10 500gb i believe had a burst of 115 on sata1 and an average sustained transfer around 65.
