View Full Version : Best mobo/ram combo for E6600.
Im looking to upgade to a newer system. I like the performance that is coming out of the E6600 chip. I will be overclocking and want to keep it to air cooling. I have been O/C for years now and know the basics.
For the E6600 what is the recommend ram and mobo? I don't want to break my bank account but do like to buy quality parts.
Recommendations?

the abit version from what i have been reading is better then the asus striker. both are solid boards though just if your not using phase/LN2 cooling then i see no need to get a board like that.
if you wanting good ocing then go for them!
also with the 6600 you need high fsb to max out the cpu. what are you looking to spend for the mobo? based on price i might suggest a 975x board or a P965...

how so? 400fsb will max out most e6600's on air or water..
that EVGA looks good but just a little outta my budget.
For a mobo I think that 150$ would work for me. The chip runs about 320$ right? I haven't looked at ram prices but I know I would need good ram to handle the high FSB.

get somthing with a intel chipset so you can run matrix raid! also instead of a 6600 get a xeon 3060 for $10 more. its a proven fact that xeons have lower VID

Low VID is just a trend of whats selling currently.
i680 is pointless without high end or great deal SLI.. and there's no need for high end SLI unless you have the monitor screen reailsate for it (24-30" LCD high res. monitor)
Intel BadAxe2 @ microcenter deal

i missed a word meant to have doesnt in there...pretty much any board even the $100 p965's can do 400fsb... unless you just get a crappy cpu.....
How about the best board for a e6600 that doesn't have sli at around $100? Sometimes I wonder if it isn't better to get a more expensive CPU and a cheaper MOBO(@ the $'s their @)
and run it stock(As basphemus as that sounds). Lets just say a slight OC.
Intel Badaxe 2 or Asus P5W DH.
EDIT: Oops, just read that last past of yours. I would go with the Biostar TFORCE board for something like $104 over at newegg.com.

Giga-965p-s3
Abit IB9
if you want a better bang imo get the E4300 i saw a newegg its now down to 170. all the E4300 are doing 2.4ghz on stock v, some hit up to 3ghz on stock v.

ss dont work
For about the price of an E6600, you can buy an Abit AB9 and E4300.
thanks for the info here. I have been pretty loyal to ABIT for years but I may have to change things.
N E suggestions about RAM??

SS does work... he pasted the url incorrectly. Instead of a space it should be a %20
