I recently built my core 2 machine and passed the prior rig down to my wife. It's a P5AD2 Deluxe mobo with 540 processor. There's a gig of ddr2 4200 and an x700 pro video card. It's cooled with an XP-120.

It performs great except it is now in an office, and it's producing a ton of heat (which was fine in the big family room where it was).

What would be an inexpensive comparably performing cpu that I could replace mine with?

Thanks in advance!
Kelly

i would probably look at a 631 or a cheap celeron. maybe even a 920. there might be better choices, that's just off the top..

Don't think Pentium D processors will work on the i925 chipset.

Nor will a cedermill..you stuck with 5xx or 6x0 P4's or celerons.

Thanks for the quick answers... So, i think I have two main choices here:
1) Go with a 600 series chip
2) Get new mobo/cpu and use the rest of the parts I have.

Is option #1 much cooler? I see that I can get a 600 series for less than $100. I'm guessing not, or someone would have enthusiastically endorsed it already..

If not, maybe option #2. Spend another $50 and move everything to different cpu/mobo. In that case, what would be comparable performance or slightly better for around $150 or less (mobo/cpu) and way cooler?
