According to the MSDS on this it's 20%- 40% methanol volume by weight. However, it has that "Bitrex" stuff that makes Rain-x Rain-x. I wonder if the slicky stuff would help or hurt a water system?!?

Would it actually flow even better than just methanol/water??? Or by sticking to the innards would it hinder heat transfer???

Anyone wanna be the guinea pig?!? :)

eh?

Sorry to hear you got laid off :(

The Rain-X Premium DE-ICER -25F (It's PINK!!)

...can be found at Pep Boys and probably other auto parts stores. Rain-x has another version (-35F) but it's Yellow and is -35F ... it may be better?!?

The MSDS on the Pink says 20-40 percent Meth.
The MSDS on the Yellow says 35% Meth.

Hmmm I thought Bitrex was "the most bitter substance known to man" put in stuff like antifreeze and lemon bleach cleaners to stop animals and children drinking much of it. At least that's what it says on the side of my "NoName All purpose household cleaner" bottle.

Bitrex provides protection against everyday menaces around the home. The sad fact is that, all over the world, thousands of young children require hospital care as a result of swallowing ordinary, every-day household chemicals. These might be commonplace detergents and cleaners or other products such as antifreeze, slug pellets or pesticides, but they all cause untold anguish for children and their parents.

Now it may never be possible to stop children doing things they shouldn't - but Bitrex will certainly discourage them. A very bitter taste is a natural warning to stop and adding Bitrex to your product will reduce the likelihood of accidental swallowing.

Like all the best products it's simple, effective-and protective.

My bad, I assumed Bitrex was the Rain-X slicky stuff :|

So that brings up another question: Would bitrex be bad for anything in the system? Pump? Vinyl/silicone tubing? Etc? I wouldn't think so, but who knows? I found the MSDS on Bitrex but no worthwhile info in it.

Just more FYI:

I found out from NPG Dist in Tulsa, OK that Washer Fluid ratio varies due to the part of the country you're in. If it's typically colder, more meth. If it's warmer, less meth.

I'm in Wichita, KS and the ratio they ship to my state is 30/70. The only thing in basic fluid is De-ionized water and meth (with blue coloring).

So... that's what I'm going to use.
