I just got a new ASUS P5nE SLI mobo.
It has a main connector with 24 mins.
There is a second place to plug in a 4 pin connector away from main connector.

I see a lot of PSU's come as 20+4 connectors, but few seem to have 24 pin connectors.

Can a 20+4 pin connector PSU be used on my mobo with a 24 pin receptacle? Or do I specifically need a 24 pin connector from the PSU?

Sorry for the dumb quesiton, but I would rather get the right PSU than have to return it for something else.

Thanks
Gordo

It is the same 20+4 or 24 pin connector. The only difference is that psu with split 24 pin connectoer (20+4) can be used on motherboard with 20 pin plug without any adapter.

The 20+4 pin ATX connector is actually "one" plug where the "extra" 4 pins can be removed in case the purchaser has a 20-pin ATX motherboard. But, when connected they act as a single 24-pin connector--so yes, you can use one of these.

The 4-pin power plug on the motherboard is a whole different wire/cable from the PSU. Some PSUs have this cable as a 4-pin, some as an 8-pin and some with an 8-pin that can be separated into two 4-pin connectors so that one of them can be used with a motherboard that has a 4-pin plug.
