Vista advise for Nortons 2006, get free Nortons 2007/ Cloudmark fix/ Disable UAC fix
Thinking about Vista and you use Nortons 2006?
Before you install VISTA to your XP or 2000 system, reading this thread will save you a lot of time, aggrevation and money. Nortons 2006 and other versions WILL NOT WORK ON VISTA, NOR CAN YOU INSTALL NORTONS 2006 TO A SYSTEM THAT HAS VISTA ON IT. It cannot be done.
Nortons does not have free phone support no more, so prior to installing Vista, go here:
http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/themes/vista/compatibility.jsp
Then click on this link
This will prompt you to upgrade your nortons 2006 to Nortons 2007 for free for the remainder of your subscription. (Its also a way to get Nortons 2007 for free if you have Nortons 2006 or Nortons 2005, then you can run Nortons 2007, even if you dont install Vista. )
Now let's say you did this and are now running Vista and you now have Nortons 2007, MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN THE NEW 2007 Product key, it will be different from your other key. This is the troubleshooting part of my post:
If after you activate, if a few days later there is another activation prompt, THIS IS THE SOLUTION.
SET YOUR SYSTEM CLOCK BACK 4 days, then under the activation, there is a button that says enter another activation number, enter the 2007 new product key, hit ok and then reset your clock to the proper time and date, I'm only posting this info as it's a known issue, I'm just saving youthe time of getting help from Symantec, since phone support now costs $30 <---Screw that)

This is entirely a different matter, If after you install Vista and get tired of that UAC popup nonsense, here's the easiest way to disable UAC

Do you use Cloudmark and Office? Cloudmark doesn't work with Vista? No problem, I have the answers!
Cloudmark just released a BETA for Office 2003 HERE three days ago, it's not supposed to work with Office 2007, but it works perfectly for Office 2003 and Office 2007 (They just changed this to reflect it does work with Office 2007 yesterday)
PS, I wasn't going to use Vista until SP1 is released, but I decided to set up 3 seperate hard drives and have Vista on 1 for testing, one to use and XP to fall back on.
Reason being, I will try to document all known issues that I encounter and the work arounds to make them work. This is post 1 dealing with Symantec's Vista issues and fixes Cloudmark fixes and how to disable UAC the easy way, when I have more issues and fixes, I'll condense them into one thread.
Next is Diskeeper and Nero
