Hey there, i have a huge problem with my hard drive so any help would be greatly appreciated..

While my windows was doing a scan disk my retarded friend pulled out the power plug on my psu. Now when i start windows it automatically goes to that safe mode option screen, when i select any option to start windows, i see a blue screen for a split second and then my computer just restarts. I connected the hard disk (vis usb) to my laptop, it detects it but when i try to open the HD it wont open saying that the files are currupt or something. If someone could please suggest something to help me out as i have a lot of important documents left on the hd.

i also tried puting the windows cd to reinstall windows, but the only option i have in the windows setup is to format my hard drive. Windows also shows how much disk space i have left on my c:, which i think suggests that my stuff is still there on the hard drive..

also the hard drive is a seagate 120 gb ide.

thanks

Throw in your Windows CD, choose the repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. Once you are logged on, you can run FIXMBR command to fix MBR. Hopefully that'll solve your problem.

get us a picture of the bsod. Sounds to me like your registry might be messed up. Mine JUST did that. I would doubt that you have done a restore point before (i never did, now i do) but if you did you could try to revert to that.

However if you were like me and you have stuff on there that you REFUSE to lose I would take the harddrive and hook it up and use a program to read the hdd bit for bit and make an image of the drive and then work with that. I believe Rstudio should work (it has for me). for the record when my sisters laptop died my dad repaired the mbr and then we ended up using rstudio and everything is messed up. I would try rstudio first to see if you can backup your really important stuff and then try the fixmbr thing. Contact me if you need "help" with getting rstudio

ok fixmbr did not fix anything :(
i only see the bsod for a split second so i dont know how to take a pic of it :-0

are you saying that i should format my hd, and after i install fresh windows i can use some program to recover stuff from before??
im really lost and frustrated :(

actually now i see another proble :/ i think using the fixmbr deleted everything off my computer as in the windows setup it says my c: has nothing on it... but if i reset the computer without the windows cd, it still tries to go in to windows unsuccessfuly..

maybe someone could add me to the msn or similar.. sonicspeed87@hotmail.com

I used rstudio once and it worked tbh, I think it's a very good program imo.

i got everything sorted out with the program (getdataback). I ended up installing fresh windows on a new hard drive and changing the jumpers on my "corrupted" one making it a slave. getdataback found it in windows and i was able to recover everything that i had on it. If anyone needs help getting the fully working version of the program, just pm me.

i always seem to get around my problems here, probably the best forums i've come accross....

thanks !:)
