Heres the story...

I bought Final Fantasy, the movie, DVD specificly. I come home, throw the disk in my DVD rom and up comes ATI DvD player...1 hr later I take the DVD out, decide to check out the "Extra Features" DvD, I stick in the DvD and it looks for Quick Time 5, it didnt find it as I never installed it, So it asked to install off Dvd I said yea sure, ( OF COURSE, thats the plan, It installs so you can veiw the stuff on the DvD disc...then it goes in for the kill) 3/4ths of the very fast install, My monitor clicks off, get a BSD and next thing I know I get a loud BEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP, it dies down to a very low beep then dies out, My system restarts and screen to choose between Me and 2000 come sup, Me I choose of course wondering whats going on...and now it wont come up, it just sits there at logo screen and then locks eventualy...and I cant get Me into safe mode either.

So Im guessing that Quick Time just commited murder on Me, I got it back up, I tried reinstalleing (7 times to be exact) and I ended up reformating. Sadly I lost all 267 of my MP3's because well, forgot to back them up, So my question is this, WHY and HOW did Quick Time kill, or slain more like it, Windows Me??

Im mad because of the lost MP3s as well as all 3dfx files that were as old as my first computer was, I mea original Voodoo2 drivers, and V3 specal hacked drivers...not to mentiion a bunch of other stuff im going to have to dig on teh net for and d/l over my 56k connection ( im talking over 3 gigs worth of stuff!).
Anyway how did this happen? My system was not overclocked at the time either.

Also where did teh loud beep come from I mean is that freaky or what? ( I though my system had fried or something.)

But good old Win2k is still chugging along...though it hates the Newer Via4in1s liek Me, ( i think its my chipset).

first of all- don;t install the 4in1s on ME or 2K unless you reaaly need them! as you found out, they can cause problesm:)

now on to the main problem-QuickTime! I personally have been having problems with QuickTime since I first had to install it for Myst. It steals associations, it's slow, it's by Apple- nothing but bad news IMHO. It sounds almost like QuickTime triggered a BIOS error- a crash would be normal, but all that beeping is not. there's a good chance QT trashed some important driver during install- was it specifically desgned for your OS? Sometimes, ME is not the same as 9x as far as programs are concerned. Being written by Apple sure won't help.

I'd write a letter to whomever made the disc, and explain your troubles. Who knows, they might actually compensate you for screwing yer system!:D

hmm, is this an attempt by Apple to destroy all PCS? heheh:)

I got you beat!

I was ripping a Brittney Spears CD for a friend (I usually just hit the mute button when a video comes on. Not my style of music, but I could stare at her all day  ) and it had some multimedia crap on it. My computer decided it wanted to fire that up (stupid f*cking autorun) and it in turn crashed my system, and then it didn't wanna boot, so I had to format.

Just a question for you. Why would you dual boot ME and 2k? 2k is FAR superior an os than ME.

The beep was very weird and scary...I may write a letter later, Im at school right now on a..guess....
G4 Mac 733mhz with 512 meg ram and Geforce 2 mx.
Doesnt seem to like the forums to well as they are taking awhile to load. (On a T1 connection as well)
I dual boot Win2k and Me because Me gives me higher 3dmark 2000 scores, but Win2k gives me higher 3dmark2001 scores because it keeps a more stable frame rate. And Win2k lets me host and play on my own server with out lag, 3 peeps on 56k and 7 bots...now thats how good Win2k uses system resources without causeing problems in game play. Win Me gives me jercky type lag in Tribes 2 if I host a server.

Got to go US history, Civil War is begining...oh joy

Yeah, let's all blame Apple because ME is such a stable OS to begin with....

o don't take it personally rugby:)

of course Apple can't make a perfect program, especially since it's not even on their system. An MS product ported to Apple would probably have even worse troubles than QT does!:D
