What's the modern pixel pipeline unlock card?

If i bought a new computer, which card is the best card to unlock pipelines on?

I own a Radeon 9500 (4 pixel pipelines enabled and 4 disabled by default) and during 2003 it was THE card to softmod. I don't follow hardware much anymore, so what is THE card today, the near future, should i talk to the nvidia folks, or just buy something for what it's rated for?

A few months ago the card to mod was X1800XL 512MB --> X1800XT 512MB. But those aren't being sold anymore.
TBH I can't think of any current-generation video cards that can be easily modified into something better. I'm sure there is some obscure thread somewhere saying otherwise however, either on OCForums or XtremeSystems.

Maybe a X1900GT or something.

the only one that I know of now is the 7900gs from BFG which is the only modable 7900gs that I know of. However I would just wait and pick up something like a 8600 series card in a few months. ATi doesnt have anything modable, that is fairly new, at the moment as far as I know. The last things that I knew of moding where some of the x1800 series cards.
