Can anyone recommend a good set of 2.1 speaker for ~$40?

not sure on your definition of good, but the Logitech x-230's aren't bad.

i think the x-230s are pretty bad, unfortunately you can't have (imo) good speakers for $40 but I think altec lansing and harmon kardon are a cut above creative and logitech at the same price point, if you don't play it loud, performance should be acceptable

The Logitech X-230 2.1 Are Fairly Good, and for their price I feel they are quite worth it. I have them on on of my secondary Comps.. and they do all right, though I much prefer my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 ... But these are a lil' out of your Price range.
For the Price I paid for, I am quite happy with the X-230s

I picked up a pair of x-230's for my sister one year for xmas on sale for 20 AMIR. To an average user, they're not bad. Can't say I really like them, but the same goes for my z-5000's. I guess i'm just too picky and/or am used to my HT setup.
