View Full Version : Benchmark Page For Seti

I have been passing this idea around a couple of other Team Members about the idea of a Seti Benchmark Database. It would require participating Members to complete a standard (0.417) WU and returning the data along with system specifications. I realise that another Team used to do this, but are no longer accepting Data.
This would allow a comparison between different CPU's, RAM settings OS'es ect, and perhaps encourage tweaking to keep up with a similar machine. If you are interested please "sign up" below, I can then get started on instructions. I am happy to compile the data and zouo has offered to help with the web page. I have contacted Thelemac, Speedj and Skip, they all seem happy with this idea.

and TC can set up a whole set of benchmarks by himself
do others need to even bother??

I'll do it.
You got to realize that my SETIing is done using the screen saver version, I assume that'll skew the results right? Let me know.

I don't see why we can't use it in the results. That will have to be a new table for Sreensaver or CLC, will make for some interesting comparison.
Alright, as long as I don't have to think too hard (thinking causes cancer), I'm in. :D

Ah, but I know WHO you are thinking about, ROBB23, and I thought it was me. All we need to do now is work out who gets the computers;)

Count me in.....as Team Lamb Chop is not doing this anymore when can tell the SETISpy guy that he could update his page to direct them to our site. Imagine the traffic and new recruits we'll have.
13oots2 that was a great idea.

Haven't had much sleep so I will start the details tonight. I need a little help here, I've been waiting for a standard WU in the AR of 0.414-0.418 does anyone have one. I keep getting nice high AR's at the moment, not that I'm complaining.
I have deciphered how to get the times and verify the WU integrity, does anyone know how to calculate CfP. Also I would like ideas as to what data should be included. So far we have:-
CPU Type
Speed Of CPU
No Of CPU's
FSB Speed
OS
CLC or Screensaver
RAM Speed and Type
RAM CAS Setting
RAM Amount
Time Taken
CfP
I am sure I've probably missed something important. I would also like some ideas as to the order the Data should be displayed in.
As for this being a good idea of mine, it's an old idea rehashed:o

Sounds cool...I'm in.
Why don't we use the same benchmark as Team Ham Hock used?
great idea guys...I'm in 4 sho
but who will be in charge of this thing?

I don't really think it's a case of who is in charge. It's who's prepared to help out on the idea, but we do need someone to upload to the Team page. At the moment it looks like I will have about 30 PC's for the database (If everyone runs the unit on each machine they have).
If Members would like a figurehead for this idea, could we have some nominations and is anyone willing to accept If people want to help, it means less work for me:D

i might be able to help. just post the "Help Wanted" sign in here, w/ the detail of the job...;)
What a great idea! Count me in!:)
Cfp is derived from the completion time versus the MHz I believe. There's some mention of this formula on Roelof's page.

Just for the record I only have 2 SETI machines, the Cyrix is only a firewall.

Should be five to my name...and I can always do different OCs on them for a larger combination...
If you want to use any of my paltry stuff in the data base just let me know what to do. :)

I have a .417 cached if you want it

Thanks Shep, have literally just stared a 4.16 that I have put to one side. Details on how to use will follow shortly.
:rushes in before everybody leaves:
Count me in too!!!
You'll have to check me on this... Cycles are S*t (cycles/second * seconds), and FLOPs are total FLOPs times one million (to get it to pure FLOPs).
CpF:
S = CPU Speed (in Mhz)
F = FLOPs to process in WU (in TeraFLOP)
t = Time to finish 1 WU (hours)
CpF = (S*(t*3600))/(F*1,000,000)

I posted the idea of this database in the Seiors "Den", Newbie_Doo suggested an interactive database. Contributers would then enter their details directly into the database. Do we have any talented peoples here that could possibly do the scripting for this idea. I realise that this is subject to approval by the Members who run the Team Page.
