Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my current system. It's a p3-650 running at 806 on an ASUS p3v4x motherboard.
I want to upgrade to an 1.4 GHz, Pricewatch.com has both Intel and AMD chips for about $105. Which one is the better chip for gaming? I would also have to upgrade my MB and memory. I think if i got the AMD, the MB and memory will cost a little less. Does the 400 MHZ FSB make mush of a difference on the Intel CPU? And what kind of motherboards would you recommend for either chip. I would like to stick with ASUS. Thanks

ok, if you wanna do gaming, get an amd, but if you go this route, then i recommend getting the soyo dragon +, this board is AWESOME...get this and like 512 of crucial 2100 ram

p4's are not as good for gaming in the least. but their pc800 ram is generally close to twice as fast as 2100 ddr ram. and p4's do run cooler.

in my personal opinion, get the amd system, this will be perfect for a gamer, built in 6 channel sound, built in 10/100 LAN, RAID, and the best overclocking kt266A board out there. its your choice, but all gamers will agree that the amd system will be better for what you want to do

Well, if you want gaming, go w/ and AMD Athlon XP and if you want an Asus motherboard, go w/ the A7V266-E for it, and some nice Crucial PC2100 DDR RAM. That'll smoke any system that Intel has to offer.

Good luck!
