I've been searching about trying to find the best nvidia AGP card.
Recently got a PNY 7600GS 512mb DDR2 card, but it looks like I would have been
better off gettiing a 7600GT or better with 256mb DDR3.

In my searches, I discovered that Gainward is making Golden Sample versions
of the 7600GT and 7900GT cards with DDR3 for agp. One even has 512mb
and a 256bit mem interface.

Problem is they only seem to be available overseas for some reason....

Is there anyplace in the US where you can still get Gainward Golden Samples ?

Back when the GF3 and GF4 Ti2400's were the fastest, I got golden sample
versions of those, and they were incredible cards for the time.

Seems the fastest agp card I can find right now is the XFX GeForce 7600GT
256MB 128-bit GDDR3 AGP card over at newegg.

Anybody know ?

7800 gs (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143046)

These things OC pretty good. :) On tom's VGA charts the AGP support is little lacks but IMO I think the 7800 would be a better bet for the best AGP performance

On the ATi side. x1950 pro (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2855870&CatId=318) is the top dawg.

good luck :)

gainward pulled out of the US after the 6 series. If you want a new gainward card you are going to have to import it from the UK.

or, if you can find them in the USA - cards sold under the 'PALIT' brand are also gainward cards - as Palit own gainward ;)

Thanks for the good info. Will have to keep my eye open for those Palit cards,
althought this is the first time I ever heard of them....

Probably wont need one for a while, as I have gone ahead and ordered up one
of those PNY 7800gs cards. I am guessing that the fast 256mb 256bit ddr3 will
outperform the slow 512mb 128bit ddr2. Will find out soon.

That Gainward 7900GT 512mb ddr3 is probably a bit out of my budget anyway.
Think the 7800 will be plenty fast enough for me.

I was just fixing to buy my first gainward when they did that too. :(
