View Full Version : Quadzilla
Whatever happened to that beast, mac? Maybe you reported results when I was on an 'inactive' time period.....

I never understood why he was running 4x GPU's with it.
I kind of thought that 1 SMP + 2x GPU would give the best points once the overhead for VM ware was taken into account.
But yeah -- I too want to know what became of that beast :D
The whole point was to create a beast that would put out the most PPD out of a single system, period. More of a proof of concept than anything. When I think about that though, I picture quad boxing 4 different WoW accounts (playing all 4 at once from a single computer), and a part of me inside rejoices.

Last i pm'ed with Mac he hadn't had time to do much with the 4 gpus.
I played with a similar setup but didn't have much success with more than one gpu. From what i have read on multi-gpu's they only seem to work well if you have equivalent XTX's (possibly with one crossfire capable, but not enabled) or perhaps with multiple x1950's (which i think is what mac got).
With my mixture of x1900's results were not good ... including multiple x1900 AIW's. I only had 1 XTX to test with.
At this point, i will invest in more quads, but am disposing of my AIW's. The good news is that since the AIW's are no longer produced, i may be able to sell them all on ebay for more than i paid for them :D ... and that will fund another quad :)

I finally got around to installing the drivers from the CD included with the Sapphire X1950 Pros. Big mistake. Lo' and behold it f-ed up my Windows install and I had to re-install Windows. Some crap about not having enough permissions and it could not really load correctly. Tried to repair it. No dice. Must have f-ed up the registry somehow. Long story short, took half a day to re-install Windows, VMWare, Kubuntu, etc. and now I have been busy upgrading a bunch of Core solo minis to Merom, my Mac Pro to Clovertown, etc. It's always something. I really should stick to one project at a time. I think I suffer from ADFHD. Attention Deficit Folding at Home Disorder. ;)
